Chapter 4 - The Trap at the Boardroom TableAt 9:15 AM, the executive boardroom on the 50th floor of Hale Tower was dead silent.

The twenty-two board members sat around the custom walnut table, their expressions a mix of unease and hushed anticipation. At the head of the table sat Peter Hale, wearing a bespoke charcoal suit, his expression a masterpiece of sorrowful concern.
"Ladies and gentlemen," Peter began, his voice dripping with reluctant grief, "it pains me more than words can express to call this emergency session. As you all know, my brother Richard has never fully recovered from the tragic loss of his wife and daughter three years ago."
He clicked a remote. The massive projection screen behind him lit up with security footage from the mansion—the exact moment Richard had knelt on the floor, holding Lily’s hand, staring intently at Emma’s photograph.
Murmurs rippled through the boardroom.
"Yesterday afternoon, my brother brought an unauthorized civilian—a common maid and her toddler—into his private sanctuary," Peter continued, pacing slowly behind his chair. "He has begun hallucinating connections between this stranger and his deceased child. Security reports indicate he is no longer anchoring his decisions in reality. If we allow him to helm the upcoming international acquisitions, Hale Enterprises could face catastrophic financial ruin."
A board member near the back, old Arthur Vance, frowned. "Peter, this is a heavy accusation. Have you spoken directly to Richard about this?"
"I tried," Peter lied smoothly, pressing a hand to his chest. "When I went to his office this morning to check on him, he threatened me. He’s becoming volatile, paranoid, and erratic. For the protection of this company and my brother's own legacy, I am invoking Section 14 of the corporate charter: an immediate competency review and temporary suspension of voting rights."
Peter reached into his briefcase and pulled out a thick stack of documents. "I have emergency medical evaluations signed by leading psychiatrists, confirming acute psychological deterioration. All we need is a majority vote to ratify my temporary conservatorship."
The room fell into a tense, heavy hush. No one wanted to cross Peter, but stripping Richard Hale of his empire without him present felt like a coup.
Suddenly, the heavy double doors at the end of the boardroom blew wide open.
The locks clicked back with a sharp, echoing snap.
All twenty-two heads whipped around.
Standing in the doorway was not a broken, delirious man.
It was Richard Hale.
His suit was immaculate, his tie knotted with surgical precision, and his eyes burned with a cold, absolute fury that made Peter take an involuntary step backward.

Behind Richard stood Marcus Sterling, the attorney looking distinctly pale and sweating profusely under his collar.
"You missed one important detail, Peter," Richard said, his voice cutting through the silence like a razor blade. "You forgot to check who owns Marcus Sterling’s loyalty when the numbers actually add up."
