Chapter 1 - THE POISON IN THE COFFEE

Facebook Hook: She thought his eyes were dead, but his camera was recording every single drop of poison... 😱🔥 #Betrayal #PlotTwist #Drama #ExposedThe grandfather clock in the grand foyer of the Mendizábal mansion struck midnight. The deep, resonant chiming echoed through the cold marble corridors like a funeral knell.
In the shadows of the ultra-modern kitchen, Valeria stood before the polished granite island. The only illumination came from the soft, blue glow of the open refrigerator. She was no longer wearing her elegant heels; she wore a silk robe that slithered behind her like the skin of a viper. From the pocket of her robe, she produced a tiny, amber glass vial. Her hands, manicured to perfection, trembled slightly—not with fear, but with an intoxicating rush of anticipation.
"Just a few more drops," she whispered to herself, her voice a venomous hiss. "Just enough to keep you confused, my dear Alejandro. Just enough to ensure you sign whatever the notary puts in front of you tomorrow."
She unscrewed the dropper and let three translucent, odorless drops of liquid fall into a porcelain cup of chamomile tea. It was the tea Elena prepared for Alejandro every single night to help him sleep. Valeria had spent the last two weeks subtly intercepting the tray, pretending to be the doting, loving fiancée by carrying it up to his master suite herself.
What Valeria didn't know was that hidden within the intricate carvings of the wooden spice rack, barely a foot away from her face, was a micro-aperture camera.
Upstairs, in his pitch-black bedroom, Alejandro sat upright in his king-sized bed. The heavy velvet drapes were drawn tight, but the room was far from dark to him. On his nightstand, hidden beneath a false bottom in his leather-bound journal, a silent smartphone screen glowed. On it was a live, high-definition feed of the kitchen.
Alejandro watched his fiancée. His jaw clenched so tightly that a muscle jumped in his cheek.
For three years, he had loved this woman. He had showered her with diamonds, taken her to the private islands of Greece, and promised her his name. But a month ago, the car accident on the highway to Cuernavaca had changed everything. The crash had been horrific. When he woke up in the hospital, his eyes bandaged, he overheard Valeria outside his room speaking to her mother on the phone: “If the doctors say he’s permanently blind, I need to secure the power of attorney immediately before his board of directors tries to squeeze me out. I won't spend my youth playing nursemaid to a cripple unless I own the crown jewels.”
That was the moment Alejandro decided to play the part. He bribed his personal physician to announce that his optic nerves were irreparably damaged. He wanted to see who Valeria really was when she thought he could no longer see her.
And now, he was seeing the terrifying truth.
A soft knock rattled his bedroom door. Alejandro instantly tossed the phone into the hidden drawer, slid his dark sunglasses onto his face, and slumped back against the pillows, letting his limbs go limp and his expression turn vacant.
"Darling?" Valeria’s voice was sweet, dripping with artificial honey.
The door opened, and she glided in, carrying the silver tray. She set it on the nightstand and sat on the edge of the mattress, running a cool hand through his dark hair. Alejandro had to fight every muscle in his body not to flinch away from her touch. It felt like a spider crawling across his skin.
"How are you feeling, my love?" she asked, her voice trembling with mock sympathy. "You seem so tense today. Did the boys disturb you? I had to discipline them earlier. They are becoming so unruly. I truly think that housekeeper, Elena, is setting a terrible example for them."
"Elena is a good girl," Alejandro said, his voice flat, purposely feigning a slight slur to make her believe her previous doses of the sedative were working. "She takes care of my nephews. My late brother... he trusted her."
Valeria’s eyes flashed with instantaneous fury, a expression Alejandro caught perfectly through the thin fabric of his eyelids and the tint of his glasses.
"Your brother was too soft-hearted, Alejandro. But don't worry about them. Tomorrow, once the notary signs over the management of the trust to me, I will handle everything. You won't have to worry about a single thing. Not the estate, not the business, and certainly not those orphans." She picked up the porcelain cup and held it to his lips. "Here, drink your tea. It will help the headaches."
Alejandro felt the warm steam of the poisoned tea rising against his face. He knew what was in it: a heavy concentration of scopolamine mixed with liquid alprazolam—a cocktail designed to keep him in a state of suggestible, semi-conscious cognitive decline.
"It's... too hot, Valeria," Alejandro mumbled, raising a trembling hand to gently push the cup away. "Set it down. I will drink it when it cools."
Valeria’s smile faltered for a fraction of a second. "But darling, it's best when it's warm. Just a few sips—"
"I said set it down," Alejandro commanded, letting a sliver of his true, authoritative voice slip through.
Valeria gasped slightly, surprised by the sudden iron in his tone. She quickly recovered, setting the cup on the nightstand with a soft click. "Of course, my love. Anything you wish. Sleep well. Tomorrow is a big day."
She kissed his forehead—a kiss of death—and slipped out of the room, closing the door behind her.
As soon as the click of the lock signaled she was gone, Alejandro sat up. He took the porcelain cup, walked silently to the en-suite bathroom, and poured the liquid down the drain, rinsing the sink thoroughly.
But as he turned back to the bedroom, his eyes caught a shadow moving beneath his door.
Someone was standing in the hallway.
He crept to the door, stepping with the absolute silence of a predator. He pressed his ear to the wood. He heard soft, stifled sniffing. Someone was crying.
He opened the door suddenly.
Elena fell backward with a small gasp, dropping a bundle of fresh linens she had been carrying. She looked up at him, her eyes red, swollen, and filled with absolute terror.
"Mr. Alejandro!" she whispered frantically, scrambling to her knees to gather the sheets. "I'm so sorry! I didn't mean to wake you. I was just... I was just finishing my chores."
Alejandro looked down at her. In the dim light of the hallway, he could see the faint, red outline of fingers on her left cheek. Valeria had struck her. His heart wrenched. Elena was only twenty-three, raising her younger siblings back in Puebla while working eighteen-hour days here to keep her mother alive on a dialysis machine. Yet, she protected his orphaned nephews, Mateo and Santi, like they were her own blood.
"Elena," Alejandro said, keeping his voice low and raspy, maintaining his blind persona. He reached out, intentionally misjudging her position slightly, touching her shoulder. "Why are you crying? What happened to your face?"
Elena froze. She looked at his covered eyes, tears spilling over her lashes. She wanted so desperately to tell him. She wanted to tell him that his fiancée was a monster who abused his nephews, who called him a "useless blind burden," who was planning to throw them all onto the street the moment she got his signature.
But she remembered Valeria’s threat: “I'll make sure you never find another job anywhere in this country. Your mother will die in that hospital.”
"I... I tripped, sir," Elena lied, her voice cracking with pain. "I hit my cheek against the hallway cabinet. I am clumsy. I am so sorry to disturb you."
Alejandro’s chest burned with a mixture of intense anger toward Valeria and profound respect for Elena's resilience. He wanted to tell her right then and there: I see you. I see your pain. I see your beauty. And I am going to save you.
But the game was too dangerous. If Valeria suspected he could see, she would flee with the millions she had already embezzled from his secondary accounts, and she would never face justice.
"Go to bed, Elena," Alejandro said softly, his voice warmer than it had been in months. "Tomorrow... tomorrow everything is going to change. I promise you."
Elena looked up, confused by the strange promise in his voice, but she nodded, wiped her tears, and whispered, "Goodnight, Mr. Alejandro."

As she walked away, Alejandro watched her retreat down the long hallway.
The stage was set. The players were in their positions. And tomorrow, the curtain would rise on Valeria's absolute destruction.
