Chapter 5 - The Council of Judas

Hook: The Five Families met to crown my successor. They didn't expect the ghost to walk through the front door with a ledger full of their executions.

The penthouse of the Eclipse Tower was surrounded by triple-layer security. Armed men stood at every elevator bay, scanning every face. Inside the grand boardroom, the heads of the city's most powerful crime syndicates sat around a massive mahogany table.

Marcus sat at the head of the table, looking immaculate in a tailored silver suit. He looked every bit the modern CEO of crime.

"The old man is dead," Marcus announced, slamming a folder onto the table. "The shipyard blast confirmed it. Vincent Torino is history. The Moretti family can confirm his demise. It is time to vote on the restructuring of the city's territories."

The older Dons murmured among themselves. Some looked skeptical, others looked eager to carve up Vincent's empire.

"And what makes you think you can control his capos, boy?" one old Don asked, chewing on a cigar. "Vincent’s men are loyal to him, not to a nephew who plays with spreadsheets."

"They'll be loyal to whoever pays them," Marcus sneered. "And with Vincent out of the picture, I control the cash flow."

Ding.

The private elevator bell rang. The boardroom doors slowly slid open.

The room went dead silent. The temperature seemed to drop twenty degrees.

Vincent Torino walked in.

He was wearing a fresh black suit, his hair slicked back, his expression completely devoid of emotion. Behind him walked Elena, her hands clasped in front of her, looking like the perfect, unassuming assistant—except for the cold, lethal stare she fixed on Marcus.

Marcus stood up so fast his chair flipped over backward. "Impossible... you're dead! I saw the explosions!"

"You always did lack imagination, Marcus," Vincent said, walking calmly toward the table. The surrounding guards raised their weapons, but before anyone could pull a trigger, Vincent slammed the leather ledger down onto the center of the table.

"Anyone who fires a weapon dies next," Vincent announced, his voice booming with absolute authority. "That ledger contains the bank routing numbers, the body disposal coordinates, and the federal informant files for every single man sitting at this table. If I don't enter a live code into my phone every ten minutes, this entire file is automatically sent directly to the Department of Justice."

The Dons gasped, their faces turning pale. The guards hesitated, lowering their weapons slightly.

"You're bluffing!" Marcus screamed, his composure shattering into frantic panic. "Kill him! He's ruined! He has nothing left!"

"He has me," Elena said softly.

She stepped forward, pulling a digital tablet from her jacket. She tapped the screen, and the massive projector behind Marcus flickered to life. It displayed audio recordings and bank transfers showing Marcus's secret deal with the Russian syndicate—a deal that explicitly involved wiping out the other four Italian families once he secured Vincent's throne.

The entire boardroom erupted into a frenzy of rage. The other Dons turned on Marcus, their expressions twisted in murderous fury.

"You betrayed the Commission, kid," the old Don with the cigar said, drawing a heavy revolver from his coat.

"Wait! No!" Marcus cried out, backing away toward the glass windows. "It was a setup! Vincent framed me!"

But it was too late. The illusion of his power was gone. He had tried to play a game of chess in a world that still ruled by blood and lead.
