Chapter 6 - The Maid's Masterpiece

Hook: The ultimate twist you didn't see coming. My nephew is dead, the city is mine again, but the real enemy was standing right behind me the entire time.

The shootout in the penthouse was short, brutal, and decisive. Marcus’s mercenaries were completely outnumbered by the combined forces of the Commission. Within minutes, Marcus was cornered on the outdoor balcony, bleeding from a shoulder wound, his silver suit stained with his own failure.

Vincent walked out onto the balcony, the cool night wind blowing his coat. Marcus was on his knees, staring up at his uncle with tear-filled eyes.

"Uncle... please," Marcus begged. "Family... you raised me."

"I raised a snake," Vincent said, his voice flat. He turned his back to Marcus and looked out over the city skyline. "Elena. Finish it."

Elena stepped forward, her gun aimed straight at Marcus’s forehead. Marcus closed his eyes, trembling.

BANG.

A single shot echoed across the high-rise. But Marcus didn't fall.

Vincent gasped, his hand flying to his left side. He looked down in disbelief as dark blood began to seep through his pristine black vest. He turned around slowly, staring at Elena.

She hadn't shot Marcus. She had shot Vincent.

Marcus opened his eyes, laughing hysterically. "You... you actually did it!"

Elena kept her gun trained on Vincent's chest. Her face was a mask of cold stone. "I told you, Vincent. I came to your house three years ago to kill you for what you did to my family. Did you really think I’d let a little thing like your nephew’s coup stop me from getting my revenge?"

Vincent staggered, leaning against the balcony railing for support. His vision was starting to blur. "You... you played both of us."

"Exactly," Elena said, her voice smooth and triumphant. "I let Marcus launch his coup so he would destroy your security and alienate you from your loyal capos. Then, I saved your life so you would lead me directly to your secret ledger—the only thing that could protect me from the Commission once you were both dead."

She reached out and snatched the ledger from Vincent's weak grip.

"Now," Elena said, turning her gun toward the terrified Marcus. "The Commission thinks Marcus killed Vincent, and they think Marcus is a traitor who needs to be eliminated. I’m going to kill Marcus, walk back into that boardroom, and hand this ledger to the Dons. I will tell them I killed both of the traitors who ruined this city. They will give me your territory just to keep this book silent."

Marcus’s laughter turned to horror. "No! Elena, we had a deal!"

"Deals with criminals are worthless," Elena said.

BANG.

She shot Marcus directly between the eyes. He tumbled backward over the balcony railing, falling fifty stories into the dark abyss below.

Elena turned back to Vincent, who was sliding down the wall, his breath coming in ragged gasps. The legendary mafia boss, the man who ruled the city for thirty years, was dying at the feet of the woman who used to wash his teacups.

"You were good at this game, Vincent," Elena said, kneeling down beside him. She gently adjusted his tie one last time, a dark, ironic smile playing on her lips. "But you forgot the most basic rule of the house: the maid always sees where the dirt is hidden."

She stood up, tucked the ledger under her arm, and walked back into the penthouse, leaving the old lion to die alone under the cold city stars. The empire hadn't fallen to a rival family or a greedy nephew. It had been dismantled from the inside out by a ghost in a maid's uniform.
