CHAPTER 1 – The Boy Everyone Ignored

Crystal chandeliers glittered above the grand ballroom of the Harrington Charity Gala, where America's wealthiest families toasted to generosity while photographers captured every smile.
Yet in the center of that luxurious room sat one person no one wanted to acknowledge.
A young boy.
No older than twelve.
Dressed in a perfectly tailored navy tuxedo.
Confined to a wheelchair.
His hands rested quietly on his lap as laughter echoed around him. Guests whispered without bothering to lower their voices.
"Poor kid..."
"Probably someone's disabled nephew."
"It's sad they brought him here."
Some looked at him with pity.
Others didn't look at him at all.
The boy never reacted.
His expression remained calm... almost as if he was waiting.
Across the ballroom, children ran between tables until a blonde girl in a white dress noticed him sitting alone.
She ignored the adults' warnings.
Instead, she walked straight toward him.
"Hi," she said softly.
"You look lonely."
The boy looked up, surprised.
"No one's talked to me all night."
She smiled.
"My name is Lily."
He hesitated before answering.
"Ethan."
Without asking why he couldn't walk...
Without treating him differently...
Lily simply sat beside him and began talking about school, books, and how boring rich people's parties were.
For the first time that evening...
Ethan smiled.
Guests exchanged confused glances.
"Why is she talking to him?"
Her mother quickly hurried over.
"Lily! Come away immediately."
"But Mom..."
"I said NOW."
Embarrassed, Lily stood.
Before leaving, she whispered,
"I'll come back."
Ethan simply nodded.
He had heard promises like that before.
Most people never returned.
May you like
But tonight...
Something felt different.
