CHAPTER 3 – The Girl Who Inherited the Truth

Inside the velvet box was not a diamond.
Not money.
Not jewelry.
It was an old silver key.
The moment Lily’s mother saw it, her face turned white.
Ethan lifted the key slowly.
“This belonged to my grandmother,” he said. “Twenty years ago, she disappeared after discovering someone inside this room had been stealing from the Harrington Foundation.”
The ballroom went dead silent.
Then Ethan pointed at Lily’s mother.
“And tonight… I finally found the woman who helped her escape.”
Everyone gasped.
Lily froze.
“Mom… what is he talking about?”
Her mother’s lips trembled.
“I promised I would protect you until the truth came out.”
Ethan nodded to the security team.
A hidden screen dropped behind the stage.
On it appeared a photo of two young women.
One was Ethan’s grandmother.
The other…
Was Lily’s mother.
The chairman spoke coldly.
“For twenty years, the richest families in this room built their empire on a lie.”
Then Ethan turned to Lily.
“You weren’t just kind to me tonight.”
“You were the missing heir we’ve been searching for.”
Lily stepped back, shaking.
“No… I’m just Lily.”
Ethan smiled sadly.
“No.”
“You’re Lily Harrington.”
“And everything they stole from your family…”
“Now belongs to you.”
At that moment, several billionaires stood to leave—
But the ballroom doors slammed shut.
Police officers entered.
And the first person arrested…
Was Lily’s own father.
He had been smiling all night.
But now, as handcuffs clicked around his wrists, he whispered one sentence that made Lily’s blood run cold:
May you like
“Your mother should have stayed dead.”
