CHAPTER 4 – The Woman Everyone Thought Was Dead Walked Into the Courtroom

The courtroom was packed.

News cameras lined every wall.

Reporters from every major network waited for the biggest fraud trial in Harrington history.

Lily sat silently beside Ethan, unable to stop shaking.

Just twenty-four hours ago, she had believed she was an ordinary college student.

Now...

She had discovered she was the last surviving blood heir of one of America's most powerful families.

Across the room, her father—Richard Collins—stood in handcuffs.

His expensive suit could no longer hide the panic in his eyes.

He glared at Lily.

"You've ruined everything."

Lily looked away.

"I didn't ruin your life."

"You ruined ours."

The judge raised a hand.

"Proceed with the first witness."

The prosecutor stood.

"Your Honor... before we begin, the State has one final witness."

Everyone turned toward the courtroom doors.

Silence.

Then...

The doors slowly opened.

An elderly woman entered with the help of a cane.

Her silver hair was tied neatly behind her head.

The moment Richard saw her...

His face lost every trace of color.

"No..."

"It can't be..."

Lily's mother burst into tears.

"Margaret..."

The woman everyone believed had died twenty years earlier...

Was standing right there.

The courtroom exploded.

Reporters jumped to their feet.

Cameras flashed nonstop.

Even the judge looked stunned.

Margaret Harrington walked slowly to the witness stand.

She placed one wrinkled hand on the Bible.

Then looked directly at Richard.

"You buried an empty coffin."

"You forged my death certificate."

"And you stole my family's empire..."

"But you forgot one thing."

Richard's voice cracked.

"What... what did I forget?"

Margaret smiled.

"I never stopped collecting evidence."

She nodded toward Ethan.

He pressed a button on a small remote.

Every television inside the courtroom lit up.

Hidden recordings.

Bank transfers.

Secret meetings.

Private conversations.

Twenty years of crimes...

Playing one after another.

Richard collapsed into his chair.

"No..."

"This wasn't supposed to happen..."

The prosecutor quietly closed his folder.

"Your Honor..."

"The State would like to add charges of conspiracy, attempted murder, fraud, money laundering, and witness tampering."

Richard knew it was over.

But before the bailiffs could escort him away...

He began laughing.

A slow...

Terrifying laugh.

"You think you've won?"

He looked directly at Ethan.

"I wasn't the one who ordered your grandmother's death."

The entire courtroom froze.

Richard's smile grew wider.

"The real mastermind..."

"...is sitting in this courtroom."

Every head turned.

Someone slowly stood from the back row.

A person no one had suspected.

And the moment Ethan recognized the face...

His heart stopped.

"Uncle James..."

The man Ethan had trusted his entire life...

Smiled.

Then quietly applauded.

"Congratulations, Ethan."

"You finally solved half of the mystery."

"Now let me show you..."

May you like

"...who really owns the Harrington legacy."
