CHAPTER 5 – The DNA Test That Destroyed the Harrington Empire

The courtroom fell into complete silence.
Uncle James walked toward the witness stand as if he owned the building.
No fear.
No hesitation.
Only confidence.
He slowly removed his gloves and smiled at Ethan.
"You've always been smart."
"But you've been asking the wrong questions."
Ethan clenched his fists.
"You murdered my family."
James laughed.
"No."
"I simply finished what your grandfather started."
Gasps echoed through the courtroom.
Margaret Harrington closed her eyes.
"I begged him never to tell you..."
James turned toward the jury.
"For decades, everyone believed the Harrington bloodline was the key to controlling the family fortune."
He reached into his briefcase and placed a sealed envelope on the judge's desk.
"I'd like this entered into evidence."
The judge opened the envelope.
Inside...
A certified DNA report.
The judge's expression changed instantly.
"This can't be..."
James looked directly at Ethan.
"Read it."
The courtroom clerk began reading aloud.
"The DNA analysis confirms with 99.99% certainty..."
"...that Ethan Harrington is NOT the biological grandson of William Harrington."
A deafening wave of shock swept through the room.
Reporters nearly dropped their cameras.
Lily stared at Ethan in disbelief.
"No..."
"That's impossible."
Ethan felt his legs weaken.
Everything he believed about his life...
His family...
His name...
Collapsed in a single sentence.
James smiled wider.
"You spent your entire life protecting a legacy that was never yours."
Margaret suddenly stood.
"Stop lying!"
Tears streamed down her face.
"I chose Ethan."
"I raised Ethan."
"He is my grandson in every way that matters."
James nodded.
"Oh, I know."
"But the Board doesn't care about love."
"They care about blood."
Within seconds, several board members began whispering.
Others checked documents on their tablets.
One by one...
They stood.
"The bylaws are clear."
"If Ethan has no biological claim..."
"He automatically loses voting control."
James slowly buttoned his jacket.
"The Harrington Empire is finally mine."
Security officers moved toward Ethan.
His access cards were disabled.
His company accounts were frozen.
Even the chairman lowered his head.
"I'm sorry..."
"My hands are tied."
For the first time in years...
Ethan stood completely alone.
Everyone abandoned him.
Everyone...
Except Lily.
She stepped in front of him.
"If you want to take this company..."
"You'll have to go through me."
James laughed.
"And what exactly can you do?"
Lily smiled.
Then she reached into her purse.
"I was hoping you'd ask."
She placed a second envelope on the judge's desk.
"This DNA report was hidden by my mother for twenty years."
James frowned.
The judge opened it.
His eyes widened.
"No..."
James whispered.
"No... that's impossible."
The judge looked directly at James.
"This report confirms..."
"...YOU are not a Harrington either."
The courtroom erupted.
James stumbled backward.
"But... that's impossible!"
Margaret slowly smiled through her tears.
"You were adopted."
"I loved you like my own son."
"But greed made you forget that family isn't created by blood..."
"It's created by loyalty."
James's face turned ghostly white.
Years of planning...
Collapsed in seconds.
Then, just as bailiffs moved to arrest him...
Every light in the courtroom suddenly went out.
Darkness.
A single gunshot echoed through the building.
When the emergency lights flickered back on...
James was gone.
And Margaret Harrington...
May you like
Had disappeared with him.
