Chapter 1 - The Silence After the GlitterThe ballroom of the St. Jude Grand Hotel plunged into a vacuum of sound so profound that the hum of the overhead crystal chandeliers felt deafening.

Elena Vance, standing at the altar in her custom French-imported silk and three-meter lace gown, stared down at the floor in absolute horror. Her jaw hung slack, her meticulously contoured face twitching as the screams died in her throat. Around her feet lay the shredded remnants of what was supposed to be her masterpiece—not just a garment, but a multi-million-dollar armor of deception.
Seven-year-old Leo, holding a pair of heavy, stainless-steel tailoring shears still slick with lint, stood frozen in the center of the aisle. His small chest heaved, his dark eyes locked not on his weeping stepmother, but on the glittering cascade spilling out from the torn inner lining of the lace train.
Thousands of tiny, unpolished, raw stones tumbled across the pristine white carpet. Under the blinding halogen spot-lights, they didn't sparkle with the clean, refined brilliance of bridal jewelry. They possessed a cold, greasy, unsettling fire—the chaotic refraction of raw earth, uncut and unsorted.
Blood diamonds. Conflict stones mined from the blood-soaked soil of a remote Central African republic, smuggled across three continents under the guise of high-fashion couture.
"Leo!"
The roar tore through the silence. Marcus Vance, Elena’s groom and Leo’s father, snapped out of his trance. His face drained of color, his knees buckling slightly as he stared from his trembling son to the glittering trail on the floor.
"What... what did you do?" Marcus whispered, his voice cracking with a mixture of rage, terror, and sudden, creeping dread. He lunged forward, grabbing his son’s shoulders, dragging the boy away from the shimmering pile. "Have you lost your mind? Look at what you've—"
"Daddy, don't touch them!" Leo screamed, his voice cutting through the murmurs rising like a tidal wave from the two hundred elite guests seated in the pews. "They're dirty! They're full of blood! She's lying to you!"
"Security!" Elena shrieked, her voice pitching into a hysterical, unnatural register. She stumbled backward, her high heels catching on the torn lace, nearly tumbling into the floral arrangements. Her face, moments ago the picture of angelic grace, twisted into a mask of pure, unadulterated venom. "Get that demon away from me! He’s ruined everything! Tackle him! Someone grab him!"
No one moved.
In the third row, Detective Inspector Thomas Vance—Marcus’s estranged older brother, a man who had spent fourteen years hunting international mineral cartels—slowly rose to his feet. His eyes were locked on a specific stone resting near the toe of his polished Oxford shoes. He bent down, picked up the rough diamond between his thumb and forefinger, and rolled it over.
On its surface, under the harsh light, was a microscopic laser inscription—a serial mark matching a shipment stolen from a government-sealed vault in Sierra Leone three months ago.

Thomas raised his head, locking eyes with Elena across the aisle. A slow, chilling smile touched the corners of his mouth.
"Well, Elena," Thomas’s deep voice echoed through the silent chapel, carrying the weight of a death sentence. "It looks like the wedding is canceled. But the interrogation has just begun."
