Chapter 7 - The Final Gear

Three months later, the corporate world had fundamentally changed.

Vanguard Global Tech had been completely liquidated under federal investigation, its assets absorbed into a newly established trust managed jointly by Henry Carter and—by special legislative decree—eleven-year-old majority shareholder Eli Carter.

The conspiracy behind Julian Carter’s fatal accident was fully exposed, resulting in indictments stretching all the way to international financial syndicates. Justice, long delayed by corruption and wealth, had finally caught up with the shadows.

Inside the private testing track behind the Carter estate, the afternoon sun cast long, warm shadows across the asphalt.

Henry stood by the safety wall, holding a steaming cup of coffee, watching a sleek, matte-black silhouette tear down the straightaway at breathtaking speed. The engine roared with a deep, electric-assisted fury—a masterpiece of engineering born from a father’s brilliance and a son’s unbreakable dedication.

The supercar slowed down smoothly, drifting into a perfect stop right in front of the garage doors.

The driver's side door swung upward in a graceful arc.

A pair of worn sneakers stepped out first, followed by blue coveralls stained with fresh grease. Eli pulled off his helmet, shaking out his messy brown hair, a wide, genuine grin spread across his face.

He walked over to his grandfather, tossing a heavy, custom-engraved brass master key into the air and catching it effortlessly.

“How was the handling, kid?” Henry asked, a warm, proud smile creasing the corners of his eyes.

Eli looked down at the key, then out toward the horizon where the sun was beginning to set, painting the Dallas sky in brilliant shades of gold and amber.

“It runs smooth, Grandpa,” Eli said, his voice steady, carrying the quiet confidence of a boy who had outsmarted giants and reclaimed his family’s legacy. “Better than ever.”

Henry wrapped a strong arm around his grandson’s shoulders, pulling him close.

“Your dad would be damn proud of you, Eli.”

“I know,” Eli replied softly, looking back at the roaring engine cooling down in the garage. “We’re just getting started.”
