Chapter 3 - The Ghost’s InheritanceThe executive suite of Whitmore Aeronautics felt less like a conference room and more like a war room as evening shadows lengthened over the Seattle skyline.

"We need proof," Rebecca said, tapping a stylus against a massive digital tablet displaying corporate registry files. "If we accuse Arthur Sterling of corporate sabotage and framing a missing person from twenty-four years ago, the SEC and the federal courts will want a paper trail. A missing person doesn't leave tax returns under an assumed name."

"She did," Emily said suddenly. All eyes turned to her. She was pacing the length of the room, her phone pressed to her ear. "My mother—Hannah—was meticulous. When she got sick... before she passed away six years ago... she made me promise to keep a fireproof lockbox in our attic in Portland. She told me, 'If anyone ever comes looking for who we really are, open the box.'"

Daniel stared at his daughter, shocked. "You knew about a lockbox?"

"I thought it was just old childhood memorabilia, Dad! Photos, birth certificates under her maiden name that she said were 'family history,' things like that. I never opened it because she made me swear I wouldn't until I turned twenty-five." Emily stopped pacing, looking straight at Claire. "I turn twenty-five next week."

"We don't have a week," Claire said bluntly. "Sterling's acquisition deadline for Daniel's company is tomorrow at noon. If he gets his signature on that contract, his legal team absorbs all legacy liabilities and IP rights, effectively wiping out any historical fraud claims."

"Then we go to Portland tonight," Daniel declared, stepping forward. "My truck is parked in the basement garage. We drive down, we get the box, and we bring it back before sunrise."

"I'm coming with you," Claire said instantly.

Daniel looked at her, surprised by the fierce loyalty still burning after two decades apart. "Why? This is my family now."

"Hannah was my family first, Daniel," Claire said, her voice steady and unyielding. "And for twenty-four years, I carried the guilt of thinking she was a thief. Let me help carry the truth."

Rebecca tapped her tablet. "I'll coordinate with our legal team to draft an emergency injunction to halt Sterling's acquisition proceedings based on fraudulent conveyance and historical IP theft. But we need that box, and we need it by 8:00 AM."
