Chapter 6 - The Boardroom CoupBy 9:30 AM, the sleek, glass-walled boardroom on the top floor of the Sterling Logistics tower was buzzing with nervous energy.

The members of the executive board sat around the massive mahogany conference table, whispering anxiously among themselves. Their phones were buzzing incessantly with news alerts about federal investigations, frozen corporate accounts, and an unexpected leadership shake-up.
The heavy glass doors swung open.
All heads turned. They expected Ethan, looking furious and desperate, or perhaps corporate counsel rushing in with damage control.
Instead, I walked in.
I wasn't wearing my usual quiet, drab cardigans or simple skirts. I wore a tailored, midnight-blue Armani pantsuit, my hair pulled back into a sleek, flawless chignon, and a pair of designer heels that clicked sharply against the polished concrete floor. Behind me walked Marcus Vance, carrying the full legal dossier of the company's restructuring.
"What is the meaning of this?" Richard Vance (no relation to Marcus, but a senior board member who had long suspected Ethan’s shady dealings) demanded, standing up from his chair. "Where is Ethan? And who allowed unauthorized personnel into a closed executive session?"
"Sit down, Richard," I said smoothly, walking straight to the head of the table—the seat Ethan had occupied for the past five years—and pulling out the high-backed leather chair.
I didn't wait for permission. I sat down, crossed my legs, and placed my hands neatly on the table.
"My name is Emily Vance-Sterling," I announced, my voice carrying effortlessly across the silent room. "Effective eight o'clock this morning, pursuant to Section 12 of the corporate charter and majority shareholder acquisition rights, I am assuming active control as Chief Executive Officer and Chairperson of Sterling Logistics."
An uproar immediately erupted around the table.
"Outrageous!" shouted Thomas Croft, the Chief Financial Officer and Ethan’s primary accomplice. "You're a junior accountant! You have no authority—"
May you like
Marcus stepped forward, slamming a certified court order down onto the center of the table. "Mr. Croft, before you finish your sentence, you might want to look at page four of the federal indictment warrant. Your name is listed right below Ethan's as the co-signer on the Caymans offshore transfers. Unless you'd like the deputies waiting outside to cuff you right now, I suggest you open your folder and read page nine."
Croft’s face turned the color of spoiled milk. He slowly reached out, opened the folder, and went completely silent.
