Chapter 2 - THE HIDDEN CAMERA IN RICH’S COLLARThe luxury suburban home that Sofia and Julian shared was quiet—too quiet. By 8:00 PM that evening, the story of the "Miracle Labrador" had already gone viral across social media. Videos recorded by wedding guests showed Rich pulling Sofia away milliseconds before the massive cross pulverized the altar.

While the world was celebrating Rich as a canine savior, Sofia sat in her darkened living room, staring at the floor.
Julian was upstairs in his private study—a room he always kept locked under the pretense that he handled sensitive financial documents for his high-profile wealth management firm. He had been up there for three hours, pacing back and forth, talking in hushed, furious tones into his phone.
Sofia sat on the sofa, her hands trembling around a cold mug of tea. Rich lay at her feet, his nose resting on her slippers.
Why did Julian have a tattoo she had never seen? Why did he recoil so violently when she looked at it? And what was that vibrating object in his pocket?
As she stroked Rich’s thick fur, her fingers brushed against his thick, custom leather collar. It was a high-end collar Julian had bought for Rich just two days before the wedding as a "gift" for the ring-bearer dog.
Sofia felt something strange on the inside lining of the leather—a tiny, hard bump near the metal buckle.
Curious, she unclipped the collar. She brought it close to the dim light of the floor lamp and flipped it over. Stitched clumsily into the underside of the padded leather was a microscopic plastic device no larger than a button, featuring a tiny glass lens and an ultra-thin wire running inside the seam.
It wasn't a standard GPS tracker. It was a high-definition, audio-enabled hidden spy camera.
Sofia’s blood ran cold. Who put this here? Julian? Or someone else?
Suddenly, the silent living room was pierced by the sound of heavy footsteps descending the wooden staircase. Sofia felt a surge of panic. She quickly shoved the collar under a sofa cushion and grabbed her tea, trying her best to look calm.
Julian walked into the living room. He had changed out of his dust-covered tuxedo into a black hoodie and dark jeans. His expression was emotionless, almost robotic.
"Sofia, sweetie," he said softly, walking over and kissing the top of her head. "I have to step out for a couple of hours. Emergency meeting with a client whose offshore portfolio was compromised by today's news coverage."
"At nine o'clock on our wedding night?" Sofia asked, her voice cracking despite her best efforts to sound composed.
"I know, baby. I'm so sorry," Julian said, offering her a warm, sympathetic smile—the exact smile that had made her fall in love with him. "I'll make it up to you. I promise. Just take some resting pills, go to sleep, and take care of Rich."
He turned and walked toward the front door. As he opened it, he looked back at the dog. Rich didn't bark this time; he simply sat up, his eyes unblinking, tracking Julian's every move with an eerie, predatory intelligence.
"Good dog," Julian whispered, a sinister grin fleetingly touching his lips before he slipped out into the dark night and locked the door from the outside.
The moment his car engine roared to life and backed out of the driveway, Sofia leaped off the couch. She grabbed the collar, ran to her laptop, and pulled out a micro-USB adapter from her desk. She carefully extracted the memory chip embedded in the collar's tiny casing and slotted it into her computer.
Her screen flickered. A folder popped up containing hundreds of video files recorded over the last 48 hours.
With a heart pounding like a jackhammer, Sofia clicked on the file timestamped 11:30 AM TODAY—just two hours before the wedding ceremony.
The video recorded from Rich's chest-level perspective showed the back entrance of the church. The footage was slightly shaky as Rich walked down the stone hallway. Then, the camera stopped.
In the frame stood Julian. But he wasn't alone.
Standing opposite him was a tall man dressed in a dark suit, his face obscured by the shadows of the church corridor. The man handed Julian a small, heavy steel tool—a pair of heavy-duty bolt cutters.
On the video's audio track, Julian's voice came through with terrifying, crystal-clear clarity:
"Are you sure the main support chain for the cross will give out?" Julian asked.
The shadowed man chuckled. "We cut through four of the six steel links. The weight of the timber will do the rest within twenty minutes of human footsteps shaking the floorboards near the altar. It's a guaranteed accident, Julian. You'll inherit her entire $12 million family trust before the ink on the marriage certificate even dries."

Sofia let out a blood-curdling gasp, slapping both hands over her mouth as tears spilled down her cheeks.
Julian hadn't just tried to marry her. He had planned to murder her at the altar.
