Chapter 7 - THE FINAL CONFRONTATION"Drop the weapon! NOW!"

A blinding spotlight suddenly swept across the pier, illuminating Dmitry, the police chief, and Sofia in a stark, harsh white light.

The roar of helicopter blades filled the night sky as a massive law enforcement chopper descended from the clouds above the harbor. Simultaneously, four high-speed Coast Guard cutters sliced through the dark water, surrounding the pier from every direction.

Dmitry staggered back, blinded by the light, shielding his eyes with his arm. "What the hell is this?!" he snarled at the police chief.

"FBI! Don't move! You are surrounded!" a voice boomed through a megawatt bullhorn from the helicopter.

Dmitry’s face twisted in pure rage. He turned his eyes back to Sofia, his thumb pulling back the hammer of his gun. "If I'm going down, you're coming with me!"

Before he could pull the trigger, Rich leaped.

With an incredible, explosive burst of power, the golden Labrador launched his body through the air, knocking Dmitry’s arm upward just as he fired.

BANG!

The gunshot went wild, tearing through the wooden beams of the pier ceiling. Rich clamped his powerful jaws onto Dmitry’s arm, sending the assassin crashing hard onto the wooden deck. Dmitry screamed in pain, punching the dog with his free fist, but Rich refused to let go, dragging the killer to the ground with ferocious strength.

"Get off me, you damn beast!" Dmitry roared.

The police chief turned to run, but three tactical officers leapt off a Coast Guard boat, tackling him to the floorboards and pinning his arms behind his back.

A dozen heavily armed FBI agents rushed the pier, securing the perimeter. Walking right behind them, holding a bloody bandage to her shoulder but smiling triumphantly, was Elena.

"You're late," Sofia gasped, tears pouring down her face as tactical medics pulled Dmitry away and pinned him in handcuffs.

"Traffic was terrible," Elena chuckled weakly, coming over and collapsing onto her knees to wrap her good arm around Sofia. "I recorded his full confession over his open comms channel while he was bragging to you. The FBI wasn't on his payroll—only his dirty police chief was. We used his own signal against him."

Dmitry was dragged past them in heavy iron chains, his bloody arm hanging uselessly at his side. As he passed Sofia, he glared at her with pure, unadulterated hatred.

"You ruined everything," Dmitry hissed, his voice venomous. "A multi-million dollar empire... undone by a stupid dog."

Sofia stood tall, holding Rich’s leash firmly in her hand, her eyes cold and unwavering.

"He’s not a dog, Dmitry," she said clearly. "He’s family. Something a monster like you will never understand."
