CHAPTER 2: THE BOY IN THE COFFIN

The cemetery erupted into chaos.
People screamed.
Some ran.
Others stood frozen in disbelief.
Daniel crawled backward across the wet grass.
His heart hammered violently against his chest.
He had seen it.
Everyone had seen it.
The boy's eyes had opened.
Impossible.
The child was supposed to be dead.
For six years.
The funeral workers backed away from the coffin.
One crossed himself.
Another whispered a prayer.
Emilia's mother burst into tears.
"What is happening?"
No one had an answer.
Then the child moved.
Slowly.
Weakly.
His fingers twitched.
A gasp spread through the crowd.
The boy sat upright.
The cemetery became deathly silent.
His face was pale.
His clothes were old.
And around his neck hung the same silver necklace Daniel had buried years ago.
The boy looked around.
Confused.
Lost.
Then his eyes stopped on Daniel.
"Daddy?"
Daniel's entire body froze.
His breathing stopped.
The voice.
The face.
The necklace.
It was Ethan.
His son.
The son who had vanished during a camping trip six years ago.
The police had searched forests.
Lakes.
Mountains.
Nothing.
Eventually they declared the child dead.
Yet here he was.
Alive.
Inside Emilia's coffin.
Daniel staggered forward.
"Ethan?"
The boy nodded.
Tears filled his eyes.
"Daddy."
Daniel wrapped his arms around him.
The crowd watched in stunned silence.
A miracle.
Or so it seemed.
But Emilia's father suddenly pointed toward the coffin.
His hand trembled violently.
"Look."
Everyone turned.
Something was hidden beneath Emilia's body.
A sealed black envelope.
One of the workers carefully retrieved it.
Across the front were written six chilling words.
TO BE OPENED AT MY FUNERAL.
The handwriting belonged to Emilia.
Daniel's blood ran cold.
With shaking fingers, he opened the envelope.
Inside was a letter.
And a flash drive.
The letter contained only one sentence.
"If you're reading this, Daniel finally knows the truth."
The crowd stared.
Daniel's hands trembled uncontrollably.
A worker found a nearby laptop and inserted the flash drive.
The video began playing.
Emilia appeared on screen.
Alive.
Healthy.
Terrified.
Her eyes were swollen from crying.
"If you're watching this..."
She paused.
"...then I'm already dead."
The crowd stood motionless.
Emilia took a deep breath.
"Daniel, the accident wasn't an accident."
Gasps echoed through the cemetery.
Daniel's face turned white.
"What?"
Emilia continued.
"For years, I kept a secret because I was afraid."
She looked directly into the camera.
"Six years ago, Ethan was never kidnapped."
Daniel's heart nearly stopped.
Emilia's next words shattered everyone's world.
"I hid him."
The crowd erupted.
Daniel stared in disbelief.
"What?"
Tears streamed down Emilia's face.
"I discovered something terrible."
She swallowed hard.
"Daniel had been laundering money for a dangerous criminal organization."
The cemetery fell silent again.
"If the police found out, Ethan would be taken away and our family destroyed."
"So I made a choice."
A choice that changed everything.
"I secretly sent Ethan away to protect him."
Daniel collapsed onto the ground.
"No..."
But Emilia wasn't finished.
Her eyes filled with fear.
"Last month Daniel discovered the truth."
The crowd looked at him.
"I knew he would come for me."
Her voice broke.
"And if I'm dead now..."
She looked straight into the camera.
"...then Daniel killed me."
The video ended.
No one moved.
No one spoke.
The only sound came from distant thunder rolling across the sky.
Daniel sat motionless.
Destroyed.
Then a voice came from behind the crowd.
A deep voice.
Cold.
Authoritative.
"That's enough."
Everyone turned.
Three black SUVs had just arrived at the cemetery.
Men in dark suits stepped out.
And among them stood a silver-haired stranger holding a badge.
He looked directly at Ethan.
Then at Daniel.
And said the words that changed everything.
"Daniel Carter, you're under arrest."
But before anyone could move...
A gunshot echoed across the cemetery.
May you like
And Daniel fell face-first into the mud.
