Chapter 4 - The Boardroom Ambush

The rain was falling in heavy torrents outside the sixty-story Vance Global Tower in the heart of the financial district.

Inside the top-floor boardroom, thirty executive board members sat around a polished mahogany table. At the head of the table sat Helen Vance, her face an unreadable porcelain mask. Beside her stood two hulking guards in tailored suits.

"Ladies and gentlemen," Helen announced, tapping her fountain pen against her crystal glass. "Due to recent tragic events and the ongoing mental instability of my granddaughter, Maya, we are convening this emergency meeting to officially transfer her trust authority to the executive committee."

"Objection!"

The heavy double doors of the boardroom swung open with a deafening bang!

Arthur Vance walked into the room, wearing a sharp grey suit. Beside him, pushing an empty wheelchair, was Dr. Sarah Chen—alive and unharm, protected by state police officers who lined the hallway outside.

The board members gasped, murmuring in shock.

Helen’s eyes narrowed into slit-like daggers. "Arthur. You dare interrupt a legal board proceeding? And where is the child?"

"She's right here, Mother," Arthur said calmly.

From behind Dr. Chen stepped Maya.

She wasn't wearing a hospital gown or wet clothes. She wore a simple, beautiful navy-blue dress. And she was walking—unassisted, stepping firmly on her own two feet across the marble floor.

The room erupted into utter chaos! Executives leaped from their chairs, cameras flashed from the press gallery at the back, and board members stared in utter disbelief.

"This is a miracle..." one senior director gasped. "The heiress can walk!"

"It is NOT a miracle!" Arthur shouted, his voice echoing through the vast chamber. He slammed a heavy leather binder onto the table. "It is a crime! For six years, Helen Vance and her co-conspirators systematically poisoned my niece with neuromuscular toxins to fake a medical paralysis and steal her inheritance!"

Helen didn't flinch. She slowly leaned back in her chair, a faint, terrifying smile touching her lips.

"A compelling story, Arthur," Helen said smoothly. "But entirely fabricated. Do you really think the board will take the word of a rogue uncle over certified medical experts?"

Helen pressed a button on her desk. The giant presentation screen behind her lit up.

"Let us review the official court documents filed this morning," Helen continued. "As of 8:00 AM, Maya Vance was declared legally ward of the state due to Arthur Vance’s history of violent offenses overseas. Guards, arrest him."

Four armed guards stepped out from the side rooms, raising their weapons.

HOOK / CLIFFHANGER: But before the guards could step forward, Maya walked directly to the head of the table, snatched Helen's crystal glass, and smashed it against the floor! "I remember everything now, Grandmother," Maya said, her voice shaking with fiery rage. "I remember the night you killed my mother!"
