The private art restoration studio in the north wing of the Nwosu estate was bathed in warm, golden afternoon sunlight.
I stood before an easel, delicately restoring the final brushstrokes of a restored landscape painting while classical music played softly from the speakers.
Footsteps approached silently across the hardwood floor. Strong, familiar arms wrapped around my waist from behind, pulling me gently against a warm chest.
“How is the masterpiece coming along, Mrs. Nwosu?” Chidi murmured softly, resting his chin comfortably on my shoulder.
I smiled, laying my paintbrush down and turning around in his embrace, looking up into his handsome face.
“It’s almost finished,” I whispered, wrapping my arms around his neck. “Just like our new beginning.”
Chidi smiled—a warm, genuine smile that reached his eyes. He leaned down, pressing his lips softly against mine.
My family had thought selling me off to a blind man was the ultimate punishment. They didn't know they were handing me the keys to an empire, and handing the wolf straight to the hunter.
