Chapter 5 - THE UNRAVELING OF A SIXTEEN-YEAR LIE

Elena’s glass of champagne slipped from her trembling fingers, shattering against the concrete.
Sofia froze in terror, hiding behind Alejandro.
Alejandro’s suave, relaxed demeanor vanished in an instant. His face went pale as he stared at the towering figure of Roberto walking calmly toward them.
"Roberto?!" Elena gasped, her voice choking on her own breath. "How... how did you find us?!"
Roberto stopped ten feet away from them. He didn't have weapons. He didn't have a crowd of angry security guards. He was dressed in a sharp, dark blue suit, looking as composed and formidable as a king inspecting his domain.
"Did you really think you were clever, Elena?" Roberto asked softly, looking at her with a mix of pity and absolute disgust. "Did you really believe that a woman who couldn't even balance her own household budget without my accountants could move six million dollars out of my foundation without me noticing?"
Alejandro stepped forward, trying to maintain an intimidating posture. "Listen to me, Cordoba. You have no jurisdiction here. This is a private charter plane registered in the United States. In five minutes, we are taking off. If you try to stop us, I’ll have my legal team in Miami sue you for corporate interference—"
Roberto raised a single hand, stopping Alejandro mid-sentence.
"Alejandro Valdovinos," Roberto said, reading from a white paper in his hand. "Born in Guadalajara, 1973. Wanted by the Spanish Guardia Civil for $12 million securities fraud. Wanted by the US Internal Revenue Service (IRS) for tax evasion. And wanted by the Mexican Federal Tax Administration (SAT) for identity fraud and forging official death documents."
Alejandro’s eyes widened in sheer horror. "How... how do you know that?"
"Because while you were planning your little escape to Saint Martin," Roberto smiled coldly, "I purchased the charter company that owns this jet two hours ago. You aren't flying to Saint Martin, Alejandro. You aren't flying anywhere."
WHEEL-SIRENS SCREAMED IN THE DISTANCE.
Suddenly, four federal police cruisers and three dark vans marked with FGR - FISCALIA GENERAL DE LA REPUBLICA roared onto the tarmac, surrounding the private jet with flashing red and blue lights.
Armed federal officers poured out of the vehicles, drawing their weapons and shouting orders in Spanish:
"¡POLICÍA FEDERAL! ¡MANOS EN LA CABEZA! ¡AL SUELO AHÓRA!" (FEDERAL POLICE! HANDS ON YOUR HEADS! ON THE GROUND NOW!)
"No! No! Please!" Sofia shrieked, bursting into violent tears as two female federal officers grabbed her arms, forcing her against the side of the SUV and slapping steel handcuffs onto her wrists. "I didn't do anything! I'm just a student! It was my mom and dad! Help me! Roberto, please save me! You're my dad!"
Roberto looked down at Sofia, his heart completely cold to her cries.
"You reminded me two nights ago, Sofia," Roberto said quietly. "I am not your father. I'm just the ATM. And today, the bank is collecting its debt."
Alejandro tried to sprint toward the cabin stairs, but two heavy federal agents tackled him hard onto the asphalt, slamming his face into the ground and cuffing his hands tightly behind his back.
Elena stood paralyzed, weeping hysterically as an officer stepped up behind her, clicking handcuffs over her manicured wrists.
"Roberto! Please!" Elena screamed, her voice echoing across the tarmac as she was dragged toward the police cruiser. "I love you! I was forced into this by Alejandro! He threatened me! He made me steal the money! I swear on my life! Give me one more chance!"
"Save your story for the federal judge, Elena," Mateo said, stepping up beside Roberto and handing a thick folder to the lead Federal Prosecutor who had just stepped out of an unmarked sedan.
The Prosecutor opened the folder, reviewed the signed warrants, and turned to Roberto with a respectful nod. "Don Roberto, all accounts in Switzerland, Panama, and Belize have been frozen by international court order. Every single peso stolen from the Cordoba Foundation has been recovered and returned to your company's master account."

"Thank you, Prosecutor," Roberto said calmly. "And the criminal charges?"
"Grand embezzlement, organized crime, tax fraud, and international money laundering," the Prosecutor replied coldly, glancing at Elena and Alejandro being shoved into the back of police cars. "Considering the evidence, Elena Ruiz and Alejandro Valdovinos are looking at a minimum of twenty-five years in maximum-security federal prison. Sofia Valdovinos, as an active co-conspirator who received stolen assets, faces up to eight years."
