Chapter 8 - A New Dawn (TWIST ENDING)Six months later.

The summer sun beamed down over the hills of Austin, illuminating a massive banner hanging above the headquarters of the newly renamed Carter-Sterling Global Enterprise. The old logo had been completely torn down, replaced by a sleek, modern emblem bearing the initials I.C.
Inside the top-floor executive suite, Iris Carter sat behind the expansive oak desk. The corporate board had been completely dismantled and replaced with ethical, independent directors. The company had transitioned into a leader in sustainable development and community investment.
Michael Reed walked into the office, carrying a fresh stack of legal documents and a hot cup of coffee.
"The final liquidation of Jason’s personal assets was completed this morning," Michael reported, placing the files on her desk. "The grand mansion was sold to a non-profit foundation for $22 million. The funds have been officially transferred to found the Iris Carter Foundation for Victims of Domestic Abuse."
"And Jason?" Iris asked, looking out over the city.
"His trial ended yesterday," Michael said with a satisfied nod. "With the evidence from the master drive, the jury took less than two hours to deliberate. Combined with his charges of attempted murder and corporate corruption, he was sentenced to 45 years in a maximum-security federal facility. No parole eligibility for at least thirty years."
Iris took a slow, deep breath, feeling an overwhelming sense of peace she hadn't experienced in over a decade. The scars on her arms were still there, but they no longer felt like marks of pain—they were proof that she had survived, fought back, and won.
"And Nicole?" Iris asked.
"She accepted a plea deal," Michael answered. "She surrendered all the assets Jason bought for her and received five years of probation for her minor role in the shell companies. She moved back to her hometown in Ohio."
"Good," Iris said quietly. "Everyone got what they truly deserved."
Michael handed her a final sealed document. "There’s one last item, Iris. A legal notice from the Texas State Registry of Estates. It arrived this morning."
Iris opened the envelope, her brows furrowing slightly as she read the legal text.
As her eyes scanned down the page, her heart suddenly missed a beat.
"Michael... what is this?" Iris asked, her voice turning sharp.
"What's wrong?" Michael asked, taking a step closer.
Iris pointed to the official seal at the bottom of the document.
The document was an official notification regarding the true ownership structure of the original $5 million seed grant used to launch Carter Enterprises ten years ago—the trust left behind by her late father.
Attached to the document was a recently unsealed death certificate and a hand-written letter dated three weeks prior.
Iris's hands trembled as she read the signature at the bottom of the letter: "Arthur Vance."
Arthur Vance—Iris’s father—had not died of natural causes ten years ago as she had been led to believe.
The document revealed that Arthur Vance had faked his death with the help of a corrupt federal marshal to escape an international criminal syndicate. More shockingly, the real architect behind Jason Carter’s rise to power wasn't Jason at all.
It was Arthur.
Her father had orchestrated Jason’s marriage to Iris, secretly guiding Jason's financial moves from the shadows, using Jason as a disposable pawn to build a massive financial empire that could eventually be turned over to Iris once she proved strong enough to tear it down and rule it herself.
Iris sat back in her chair, stunned into absolute silence.
Her phone on the desk suddenly buzzed.
An unknown number flashed on the screen.
With a shaking hand, Iris answered it and placed the phone to her ear.
"Hello, Iris," a deep, familiar, long-forgotten voice spoke through the line. "I’ve been watching the news. You handled Jason beautifully, my daughter. You were always far smarter than he was."
Iris gripped the edge of the desk, her eyes wide with shock.
May you like
"Father...?" she whispered.
"The board is yours now, Iris," Arthur Vance said smoothly over the phone before the line went dead. "Welcome to the real game."
