CHAPTER 1 – The Fall of a King

The headlines spread across the country before sunrise.

"Billionaire Richard Hayes Faces Seven Years Behind Bars."

For millions of people, it was the perfect ending to the story of another wealthy businessman brought down by greed.

Social media exploded.

"Lock him up."

"Another millionaire who thought he was above the law."

"Justice has finally arrived."

Nobody asked whether the accusations were actually true.

People had already made up their minds.

Just three months earlier, Richard Hayes had seemed untouchable.

He was the founder of Hayes Capital Group, a company that employed thousands across the country.

He donated millions to children's hospitals.

He funded scholarships.

He rebuilt schools after hurricanes.

Employees described him as demanding—but fair.

He believed one principle above everything else:

"Money can build a company. Character builds a legacy."

Unfortunately...

Character was exactly what many people around him lacked.

On that quiet afternoon, Richard sat at the twelve-seat mahogany dining table inside his mansion.

Across from him sat his elegant wife, Victoria Hayes.

Perfect makeup.

Designer jewelry.

A smile that always appeared genuine.

Nearby, Greta—the sixty-four-year-old housekeeper—carefully poured fresh tea into delicate porcelain cups.

Greta had worked for the Hayes family for nearly twenty years.

She spoke little.

Never interrupted conversations.

Never complained.

Most visitors barely noticed she was in the room.

Richard always greeted her every morning.

Victoria...

Almost never looked at her.

"I think the Singapore contract will double next year's revenue," Richard said while reviewing documents.

Victoria nodded absentmindedly.

"That sounds wonderful."

She barely glanced at the papers.

Instead...

She secretly checked a message on her phone.

A single sentence appeared.

Everything is ready.

Her lips curled into an almost invisible smile.

Greta noticed it.

She also noticed something else.

Victoria quietly slipped the phone back into her purse the moment Richard looked up.

The old housekeeper frowned.

Something didn't feel right.

Without warning—

BOOM!

The front doors exploded open.

More than a dozen police officers stormed inside.

Armed investigators flooded the luxurious dining room.

Journalists immediately surrounded the mansion outside.

Camera flashes illuminated every window.

Richard slowly stood.

"There must be some mistake."

The lead detective stepped forward.

"Richard Hayes..."

He unfolded an arrest warrant.

"You are under arrest for large-scale financial fraud, money laundering, tax evasion, and conspiracy."

Silence.

Even the birds outside seemed to stop singing.

Richard stared in disbelief.

"What?"

"You have the right to remain silent."

"This is impossible."

Victoria gasped dramatically.

"Oh my God..."

She covered her mouth as if completely shocked.

Greta watched her carefully.

The tears...

Never came.

Investigators searched the mansion for hours.

Computers.

Financial records.

Hard drives.

Every safe was opened.

Every cabinet inspected.

Reporters broadcast the raid live across the country.

Within hours...

Richard's face dominated every news channel.

By evening...

His stock had collapsed.

Investors fled.

Banks froze accounts.

Business partners disappeared.

Then came the betrayal that hurt far more than the arrest.

Victoria stopped answering his calls.

Three weeks later...

Richard's lawyer visited him inside jail.

He quietly placed several documents on the metal table.

Richard frowned.

"What are these?"

The lawyer hesitated.

"Your wife has filed for divorce."

Richard blinked.

"What?"

"She has also petitioned the court for control of several shared properties."

Richard looked confused.

"Already?"

The lawyer nodded.

"And..."

He swallowed hard.

"She has been seen publicly with your former Chief Financial Officer."

Richard felt the air leave his lungs.

"Ethan?"

The lawyer lowered his eyes.

"Yes."

The same man Richard had trusted for twelve years.

Day after day...

Everyone vanished.

Former friends.

Board members.

Business partners.

Even distant relatives.

Some publicly condemned him.

Others claimed they had always suspected he was corrupt.

People who had once toasted his success now competed to destroy his reputation.

Only one person continued visiting every week.

Greta.

The elderly housekeeper.

She brought homemade soup.

Fresh clothes.

Family photographs.

And every time she left...

She simply smiled.

"Truth takes longer to arrive than lies."

Richard never forgot those words.

Two months later...

The trial finally began.

Every seat inside the courtroom was occupied.

Television crews filled the back rows.

Influencers livestreamed outside.

Former colleagues whispered excitedly.

They weren't there for justice.

They wanted entertainment.

They wanted to watch a billionaire fall.

Richard entered wearing a simple gray suit.

No expensive watch.

No bodyguards.

No luxury.

Just handcuffs.

People smirked.

Some even applauded sarcastically.

Then they noticed who walked beside him.

Not family.

Not friends.

Not business executives.

Only Greta.

The elderly housekeeper.

Laughter echoed through the courtroom.

"That's all he's got left?"

"His maid?"

"Pathetic."

Greta ignored every insult.

She quietly helped Richard sit down.

The prosecutor stood confidently.

For nearly two hours...

He presented financial records.

Wire transfers.

Company accounts.

Witness testimony.

The evidence looked overwhelming.

Even Richard's attorney appeared discouraged.

Finally...

The judge adjusted his glasses.

"The court is prepared to deliver its preliminary ruling."

The room became perfectly silent.

Richard closed his eyes.

Seven years.

Everything was over.

The judge opened the sentencing folder.

Then—

A calm female voice interrupted.

"Your Honor..."

Every head turned.

Greta had slowly risen to her feet.

The courtroom erupted with confused whispers.

The judge frowned.

"Madam, this is highly irregular."

Greta nodded respectfully.

"I understand."

"But before you sentence an innocent man..."

She reached into her worn leather handbag.

...and removed a thick sealed envelope.

The entire courtroom froze.

Then Greta looked directly at Victoria.

For the very first time...

Fear appeared on Victoria's face.

Greta spoke six words that changed everything.

May you like

"I've been waiting twenty years for this."
