Chapter 9 - The Wedding Vows KeptTen days later, the news cycles across the East Coast were dominated by a massive federal sweep. The confidential financial files Adrian had managed to secure and hand over to the FBI completely dismantled the Vale crime syndicate from top to bottom. Dozens of corrupt judges, politicians, and syndicate leaders were arrested overnight.

The name Vale no longer carried terror in Philadelphia. It was finally clean.

Back in Maine, the storm had cleared, leaving behind a crisp, golden autumn afternoon.

The small cliffside chapel overlooking the Atlantic was adorned not with white roses and melting candle wax, but with wild coastal flowers, driftwood, and the gentle warmth of the afternoon sun.

There were no six hundred elite guests, no judges, no politicians, and no reporters.

There was only a small wooden altar, a local magistrate with a gentle smile, and six people in total: Thomas Hart, beaming with tears in his eyes; little Lily, wearing a tiny flower crown and clutching a basket of rose petals; and Evelyn, standing before the man she had waited three agonizing years to marry.

She wore a simple, elegant ivory dress that moved gracefully in the ocean breeze. No diamonds, no heavy lace—just the simple, unvarnished truth of a love that had survived hell and returned.

Adrian stood before her, dressed in a sharp navy suit, his eyes shining with unshed tears. He held her hands, feeling the warmth of her skin against his own.

"I’m sorry it took three years," Adrian whispered, his voice thick with emotion. "And I'm sorry I missed our first wedding."

Evelyn smiled, a tear slipping down her cheek as she squeezed his fingers. "You didn't miss it, Adrian. You were just waiting for the right moment."

The magistrate smiled, opening the worn leather book in his hands. "We are gathered here today—not under the shadow of fear, but in the light of survival—to unite this family..."

As Adrian slipped a simple gold band onto Evelyn's finger, the church bells from the steeple rang out across the quiet coastal town, echoing over the waves.

The past was buried. The ghosts were laid to rest. And as Adrian pulled Evelyn into a deep, desperate embrace, with little Lily laughing and tossing petals around their feet, they finally began their forever.
