Chapter 3 - The Liquidation OrderDaniel Mercer handed the first document to Ethan. It wasn't just a standard divorce filing; it was a comprehensive dismantling of Ethan’s entire existence.

"Read page four, Mr. Sterling," Mercer instructed smoothly.
Ethan’s hands shook so violently he could barely hold the heavy cardstock. His eyes scanned the lines of legal jargon, and as he read, all color vanished from his face. His knees buckled slightly, and he caught himself against the edge of the stone railing.
"No," Ethan whispered, shaking his head in sheer disbelief. "No, this... this is insane. You can't freeze the corporate accounts. You can't seize the primary residence. This house is my ancestral home!"
"Your ancestral home was a modest brick colonial in Ohio before my grandfather bought this estate for you as a wedding gift," I reminded him, my voice flat and devoid of any lingering warmth. "A gift that was legally registered under a revocable trust—a trust that I have officially revoked as of 12:01 PM today."
Vanessa pushed past her mother, her face twisted in pure, unadulterated hatred. She glared at me, her eyes wild. "You psychotic bitch! You think you can just walk in here and ruin us? You’re a nobody without this family! You’re nothing without Ethan’s name!"
Before I could reply, the heavy iron security gates at the front of the estate groaned.
All of us turned our heads. A convoy of three black utility vans and two unmarked white transport trucks rolled through the gates, their tires crunching rhythmically on the gravel driveway. Emblazoned on the side of the vehicles in bold, metallic lettering were the words: APEX ASSET RECOVERY & LIQUIDATION SERVICES.
Vanessa shrieked, pointing at the trucks. "What is that?! What are those trucks doing here?!"
"They’re here to collect," Daniel Mercer answered calmly, snapping his briefcase shut. "By order of the Superior Court, all luxury assets, high-value vehicles, artwork, and designer furnishings purchased with corporate funds commingled from the Vane trust are subject to immediate seizure pending asset allocation hearings."
Men in dark tactical uniforms and high-visibility vests stepped out of the trucks. The lead officer, a burly man with a clipboard, walked briskly up the driveway toward us.
"Mr. Mercer," the officer saluted slightly. "Apex Asset Recovery team on site. We have warrants for the primary residence, the secondary guest houses, and the three luxury vehicles currently parked in the north garage."
"Proceed," Daniel nodded.

"You can't do this!" Margaret screamed, charging toward the lead officer like an enraged bull. "Do you know who I am?! I am Margaret Sterling! This is my house! Get off this property or I will have every single one of you thrown in federal prison!"
The officer didn't even blink. He simply flashed a laminated federal court order right in front of her face. "Ma'am, interfere with court-ordered asset seizure, and you'll be joining us in cuffs. Move aside, please."
