Chapter 9 - The New Vane EmpireThree months later.

The sun shone brightly over the Manhattan skyline, reflecting off the glass towers of Vane Global Enterprises—formerly Sterling Holdings, now rebranded and completely restructured under my direct leadership as Chairwoman and CEO.

In my sprawling executive office on the sixty-fifth floor, the view was breathtaking. But the best part wasn't the view of the city; it was the small, cozy art corner set up near the window, where nine-year-old Leo sat happily sketching with colorful markers, humming a quiet, cheerful tune.

A soft knock sounded at my office door.

"Come in," I said, turning away from the floor-to-ceiling window.

Daniel Mercer walked in, holding a sleek black leather folder, accompanied by my mother, Beatrice.

"Good morning, Madam CEO," Daniel smiled, a rare, genuine expression crossing his sharp features. "Just dropping off the final bankruptcy liquidation notices for the Sterling family trust holding company. Margaret and Vanessa’s remaining personal assets have officially been auctioned off to settle their outstanding debts."

"And Ethan?" I asked quietly.

"He took a job managing a regional hardware store in upstate New York," Daniel replied smoothly. "Lives in a modest two-room apartment. Completely out of society circles. His mother and sister refused to live with him, so they’ve relocated to a boarding house in New Jersey."

I nodded slowly, feeling a profound sense of closure wash over me. No anger. No bitterness. Just complete, absolute peace.

"Thank you, Daniel. For everything."

"It was an absolute pleasure, Mrs. Vane," Daniel nodded respectfully before stepping out of the office.

My mother walked over, placing a gentle hand on my shoulder, and looked over at Leo, who was holding up a bright, colorful drawing of a superhero cape.

"You did it, my love," Beatrice whispered, her eyes shining with unshed tears of pride. "You saved your son. You reclaimed your legacy. You built an empire out of the ashes they tried to throw you into."
