Chapter 8 - The Sunrise DecreeThe courtroom of the Superior Court of New York was packed by 8:45 AM.

Word had already leaked across Wall Street and the society columns: The Sterling Dynasty had collapsed overnight. Headlines across financial blogs blared: THE VANE REVENGE: HOW ELENA STERLING DISMANTLED A BILLION-DOLLAR EMPIRE IN TWENTY-FOUR HOURS.
Margaret sat in the front row of the public gallery, looking ten years older, dressed in a simple black coat without her signature pearls. Vanessa sat beside her, staring blankly at the polished mahogany floor, refusing to look at the photographers crowded outside the courtroom doors.
Ethan sat at the defense table, his head bowed, looking like a ghost of the arrogant CEO he had been just two days ago.
I walked through the double doors flanked by my mother, Beatrice, and my attorney, Daniel Mercer. We took our seats at the plaintiff’s table. I wore a crisp, tailored white suit—a visual declaration of absolute victory and a fresh start.
Judge Robert Vance adjusted his spectacles, looking down at the thick stack of legal documents before him.
"We are here for the dissolution of marriage and final asset apportionment in the matter of Sterling v. Sterling," Judge Vance announced, his voice echoing through the quiet courtroom. "The court has reviewed the comprehensive financial disclosures, forensic audits, and undisputed custody agreements submitted by counsel for the petitioner, Mrs. Elena Vane."
Judge Vance paused, looking directly at Ethan.
"Mr. Sterling, your legal representation has submitted no counter-affidavits. Do you contest the terms of this dissolution?"
Ethan swallowed hard, his throat tight. He looked across the courtroom at me. I met his gaze with absolute, unyielding indifference.
Ethan slowly stood up. His hands gripped the edge of the table.
"No, Your Honor," Ethan whispered, his voice cracking. "I... I do not contest."
"Very well," Judge Vance said, picking up his heavy mahogany-handled fountain pen. "The court hereby dissolves the marriage between Elena Vane and Ethan Sterling. All Vane family assets, subsidiary holdings, and corporate properties are restored to sole petitioner ownership. Custody of the minor child, Leo Sterling, is granted exclusively to Mrs. Vane, with supervised visitation rights for the father strictly conditional upon court-approved psychiatric evaluation."
