Chapter 8 - THE DAWN RAIDForty-eight hours later, the penthouse suite of Moretti Tower was transformed into an impromptu federal command center.

Federal agents in dark windbreakers moved briskly between banks of glowing computer monitors, while elite cyber-security specialists analyzed the contents of the silver flash drive Emily had recovered from the alley.
Lorenzo Moretti sat behind his massive obsidian desk, staring out the floor-to-ceiling windows at the Manhattan skyline as the sun began to rise. A new, non-functional titanium band rested on his desk—a permanent reminder of how close he had come to the grave.
The heavy oak doors opened, and Emily walked in. She was no longer wearing her waitress apron, nor her tactical turtleneck. She wore a sharp, custom-tailored charcoal business suit that commanded absolute respect.
“The federal indictments have been signed,” Emily announced, laying a thick stack of legal documents across the desk. “Marcus Vance’s co-conspirators on the board have been arrested, and the entire Apex Global leadership team is facing federal racketeering and attempted assassination charges.”
Lorenzo turned away from the window. He looked at Emily for a long moment, a complex mix of deep gratitude, profound professional respect, and lingering guilt in his eyes.
“When you walked up to my table,” Lorenzo said softly, “I thought you were just another invisible worker in a city full of them. I was arrogant, blind, and cruel.”
“You were a typical billionaire,” Emily replied without missing a beat, though a faint smile touched the corner of her lips. “Most of them never look at the person pouring their coffee. They only look at the watch on their wrist.”
Lorenzo let out a low, self-deprecating chuckle. He stood up from his chair, walking around the desk, and extended his hand toward her.
“The board is gone, Emily. Moretti Corp is restructured. As of this morning, our legal department has reinstated all your original patents with full retroactive royalties, plus a controlling thirty percent equity stake in our new biometric division.”
Emily looked down at his outstretched hand, then up into his eyes.
“Thirty percent?” Emily raised an eyebrow. “I calculated the compound interest on my stolen patents, Mr. Moretti. You actually owe me thirty-two point five percent.”
Lorenzo laughed out loud—a genuine, booming sound that hadn't escaped his lips in years. He pulled his hand back, shaking his head in disbelief.

“You really never miss a detail, do you?”
“Never,” Emily said, shaking his hand firmly. “I pay attention.”
