Chapter 2 - THE UNTOUCHABLE SHADOW

The street descended into absolute chaos. The bystanders who had been recording and laughing only moments ago were now frozen in terror and awe. The realization hit the crowd like a tidal wave: the old man in the faded field jacket wasn't homeless. He wasn't forgotten. He was a ghost from the highest corridors of global power.
Marcus Vance picked up his military cap from the sidewalk with his remaining left hand. He didn't brush off the dust; he simply placed it back on his head with deliberate, calm precision. He looked down at the gold coin lying in the dirt near Arthur’s shoes.
"Pick it up," Marcus said softly.
Arthur was shaking violently, his former arrogance completely crushed. Tears began to well in his eyes as he dropped to his knees, his expensive suit scraping against the filthy pavement. With trembling fingers, he reached for the gold coin and held it up with both hands like an offering.
"I... I'm so sorry, Chief Vance... I didn't know... I swear to God I didn't know!" Arthur sobbed, bowing his head to the dirt.
Marcus didn't take the coin. He looked at Arthur with deep, unyielding pity. "I told you that you still had time to walk away. You chose to stay."
General Vance gestured to two of his tactical officers. "Take Mr. Pendelton into custody. The Department of Financial Crimes has a warrant waiting."
"Wait! On what charges?!" Arthur screamed as two giant men in tactical gear grabbed him by his arms and yanked him to his feet. "I didn't break the law! Cruelty isn't a crime!"
"Financial treason, grand embezzlement, and high-level espionage," General Vance replied coldly. "We’ve been monitoring your unauthorized transactions out of Pendelton Capital for six months. We were waiting for the right moment to seize your master keys. You just gave us the opportunity."
Arthur’s face turned completely ghostly white. He looked at Marcus, realizing the horrifying truth: Marcus wasn't standing on that street corner by accident. He hadn't been begging. He had been baiting him.
As Arthur was dragged toward the secondary SUV, screaming for mercy, Marcus turned to the crowd of bystanders who were still holding up their phones. The atmosphere was stiflingly quiet.
"Turn the cameras off," General Vance ordered the street, but Marcus raised a single finger, stopping his brother.
"No," Marcus said, his deep, gravelly voice echoing down Fourth Street. "Leave them on. Let the world watch what happens when men like Arthur Pendelton think money grants them the right to walk over human dignity."
Marcus stepped into the back seat of the lead black Suburban. General Vance closed the door behind him with a heavy thud. As the convoy sped away, leaving black tire marks on the asphalt, the live streams across the internet exploded. Within ten minutes, the video of the one-armed war hero and the fallen banker reached fifty million views.
But the story was far from over. Inside the moving SUV, Marcus opened a secure, encrypted satellite tablet.
"Did the bait work?" Marcus asked his brother.

General Vance nodded, his face solemn. "Arthur's arrest triggered the fail-safe protocol at the central bank. The masterminds behind the syndicate are panicking. They think you're coming for them tonight."
Marcus looked out the tinted window at the city skyline, his jaw clenched tight. "They're wrong," he murmured. "I'm not coming for them tonight. I'm already inside."
