Chapter 5 - The Collapse of the EmpireVivian Whitmore stared at Arthur Pendelton as if he were speaking a foreign language. For thirty years, she had ruled the board with an iron fist, bending directors to her will through strategic debt leverage and blackmail.

"You can't do this," Vivian whispered, her voice finally losing its polished veneer. "I am Whitmore Diagnostics. I built this company from a regional clinic into a medical empire!"
"You built it on lies, Vivian," Marcus Vance said, sliding a final legal notice across the mahogany table. "And last night, the Illinois Attorney General’s office filed criminal charges for medical fraud, forgery, and conspiracy against both you and Dr. Avery."
The two security guards flanking Vivian looked at each other, then instinctively stepped back. They weren't going down with a sinking ship.
Vivian turned her desperate gaze toward her son. "Ethan... Ethan, look at me. I did it all for you! Every decision I made, every control I exerted, it was to protect your inheritance, to protect our legacy from women like her who only want your name!"
Ethan walked slowly around the table until he stood just inches from his mother. The man who had once cowered under her disapproval, who had sought her validation in every boardroom and medical consultation, was gone. In his place stood a man forged in the fires of absolute betrayal.
"You didn't protect my legacy, Mother," Ethan said, his voice deadpan and chilling. "You stole my life. You stole three years of my marriage, three years of my peace of mind, and you tried to steal my unborn child before he even drew his first breath."
He reached out, not to hug her, not to plead, but to gently lift the heavy diamond-encrusted Whitmore family signet ring—the symbol of corporate autocracy that Vivian wore on her right hand—off her finger.
Vivian gasped, trying to pull her hand back, but Ethan’s grip was unyielding. He slid the heavy gold band off her skin and dropped it onto the table with a dull, final thud.
"Your authority here is over," Ethan said quietly. "The federal marshals are waiting outside to escort you to processing."
As the federal marshals stepped forward to place cuffs on the fallen matriarch, Vivian didn't scream. She simply stared at Claire with a look of pure, unadulterated venom.
"You think you won," Vivian hissed as she was led toward the double doors. "The Whitmore name is cursed, Claire. He will destroy you just like he destroyed everyone else."

The heavy doors clicked shut, sealing her fate.
The boardroom was dead silent once more.
