Chapter 6 - THE FINAL BLOWLeft alone in the conference room, Evan slumped back into his chair, his arrogance entirely shattered. He looked at Emily, his eyes pleading for mercy—the exact same look of pathetic manipulation he had used to control her for years.

"Emily... please," Evan whimpered, his voice trembling. "We have a child together. Don't ruin my life over some business paperwork. We can fix this. We can go to counseling. Just drop the charges."
Emily stood up slowly, walking around the table until she stood right beside him. She looked down at him not with hatred, but with profound, pitiless indifference.
"Evan, do you remember what you said to me yesterday while I was holding our crying baby and scrubbing your dinner plates?" Emily asked softly.
Evan swallowed hard, staying silent.
"You told me to move faster," Emily continued, her voice steady and icy. "You told me to bring you more food. You treated me like dirt in my own home, believing that because you had a ring and a title, you owned my soul."
She reached down, picked up Evan’s corporate ID badge from the table, and dropped it into a metal paper shredder standing nearby. The machine whirred to life, grinding the plastic card into tiny, useless fragments.
"You don't own me, Evan," Emily said clearly. "And you certainly don't own Hartwell Dining. Effective immediately, your employment is terminated with cause, your access to all family trust properties is permanently revoked, and our divorce papers—complete with full custody demands and asset forfeiture—will be served to you by the end of the day."
Evan lunged forward in a desperate, last-ditch fit of rage, raising his hand to strike her. "You ungrateful bitch—!"
Before his hand could move an inch, the conference room door flew open. Two Hartwell Security guards tackled Evan to the floor, pinning his arms behind his back with practiced efficiency.
"Keep him down," I commanded coldly. "Daniel, call the police. Tell them we have a suspect caught attempting assault on company premises, in addition to grand larceny and corporate fraud."
As the guards hauled a kicking, screaming Evan out of the conference room, the heavy oak door closed behind them, restoring complete, absolute silence to the room.
Emily let out a long, shuddering breath, her shoulders dropping as the last remnants of her past trauma melted away. She turned to me, a radiant, genuine smile breaking across her face for the first time in years.

"We did it, Mom," she whispered.
"We didn't just survive, darling," I said, pulling her into a warm, fierce embrace. "We took back our crown."
