Chapter 13 - The Highway Ambush

At 0200 hours, a violent storm raged through the Appalachian foothills as a federal prisoner transport convoy carrying Luke and Reid Higgins traversed Interstate 81 toward the maximum-security facility in Florence.

Without warning, two heavy armor-plated semi-trucks boxed in the convoy. EMP charges neutralized the electronic ignitions of the escort vehicles, plunging the highway into total darkness. Within ninety seconds, a highly trained tactical mercenary unit blew the doors of the transport van using explosive charges.

They didn't shoot to kill the guards; they suppressed them with flashbangs and tear gas, extracting Luke and Reid Higgins before evaporating into the storm.
