Chapter 15 - Fortifying the Perimeter

We had four hours before the storm system hit St. Jude’s Haven, bringing gale-force winds and heavy rain that would knock out the local power grid. I knew this was where they would make their move.
Instead of running—which would make us easy targets on open roads controlled by Vance’s operatives—I turned our coastal house into a fortress. Colonel Cole arrived with four former Special Forces operators, bringing night-vision gear, tactical barriers, and non-lethal deterrents.
I moved Anna and Paige into the safe room—a reinforced concrete basement vault equipped with independent air filtration, reinforced steel doors, and live perimeter camera monitors.

"Dad," Anna said, taking my hand before I closed the vault door. Her voice wasn't weak like it was in the hospital; it was steady, hardened by everything she had overcome. "Don't let them close the curtains again."
I kissed her forehead and locked the heavy vault wheel into place. "Not a chance, sweetheart."
