Chapter 2 - Emergency Session at Dawn

The mahogany boardroom on the 42nd floor of the Whitmore Tower smelled of stale espresso and sheer panic.

At precisely 7:02 a.m., the heavy oak doors swung open, and Ethan strode in, looking impeccably tailored in a charcoal Tom Ford suit, his silver-streaked hair brushed to perfection. He flashed his trademark million-dollar CEO smile, expecting the usual deferential nods from his investors.

Instead, he was met with dead silence.

Arthur Pendelton sat at the head of the table, his face the color of wet cement, clutching a printed copy of the photo I had sent hours earlier. Next to him sat three other board members and the company’s chief legal counsel, Marcus Vance.

"Arthur," Ethan chuckled, dropping his leather briefcase onto the glass table with a confident thud. "I heard there was an early morning emergency. I assume this is about the Singapore port expansion? Because I’ve already finalized the numbers—"

"Shut the door, Ethan," Arthur rasped, his voice trembling with suppressed rage. He slid the piece of paper across the polished table.

Ethan glanced down. The color drained from his face instantly, the rehearsed charisma evaporating like morning fog. The photograph of him and Vanessa in the Peninsula penthouse stared back up at him, stark and undeniable.

"This... this is a malicious fabrication," Ethan stammered, his fingers twitching against the edge of the table. "Deepfake technology. Someone hacked my account—"

"Don't insult our intelligence, Ethan," Marcus Vance interrupted, tossing a thick stack of stapled documents onto the table. "We had our forensic IT team analyze the metadata within four minutes of your wife's broadcast. That photo was taken inside Suite 812 of The Peninsula. Furthermore, our corporate compliance audit shows that over the past eight months, Vanessa Carter’s salary was secretly inflated by thirty percent, and her luxury travel expenses were billed directly under 'Client Acquisition Research.'"

Ethan swallowed hard, his throat dry. "That was... that was for strategic scouting. Vanessa is an asset to the—"

"Vanessa Carter is currently locked out of her corporate email, her security badge has been deactivated, and federal investigators have already been tipped off regarding our Department of Defense logistics bids," Arthur interrupted, slamming his palm onto the table. "Do you have any idea what you've done? You didn't just cheat on your wife. You compromised national defense supply chains while using company funds to finance your mistress's lifestyle!"

"Where is Elena?" Ethan demanded, panic finally piercing through his denial as he scanned the room. "Call my wife! She knows this is absurd! She handles public relations; she can spin this—"

Arthur let out a harsh, humorless laugh.

"Your wife," Arthur said slowly, leaning forward, "is the one who sent the photo to this board."

Ethan froze. The room spun around him. "What?"

May you like

"She forwarded it at 3:07 a.m.," Arthur continued, his eyes cold as ice. "Along with a personal note wishing you both a lifetime of happiness. And by the way, Ethan? As of 6:00 a.m. this morning, Elena filed for divorce, executed her prenuptial asset freeze, and legally transferred her controlling proxy shares into an independent trust. You no longer have the voting majority to save your own company."

Ethan stared at the empty seat at the end of the table where I used to sit—the seat that had quietly held the entire empire together.
