Six months later, the sun rose over the Pacific Ocean, casting a brilliant golden glow across the Malibu coastline.
I stood on the balcony of my new cliffside estate—a sprawling modern architectural masterpiece of glass, steel, and infinity pools that overlooked the endless blue horizon. No ghost of the past lingered here. Every piece of art, every minimalist line, and every brick was chosen by me, for me.
My phone chimed on the outdoor teak table.
It was a notification from the global logistics index. Aethelgard Logistics had just been named Corporate Enterprise of the Year, securing its position as the undisputed titan of international shipping and supply-chain infrastructure.
I took a slow sip of my morning espresso, watching a pelican glide effortlessly over the crashing waves below.
My phone buzzed again. A text from an unknown number.
I looked at the screen. It was a local prison payphone number.
I didn't answer it. I didn't need to.
Instead, I tapped the screen, blocked the number permanently, and tossed the device onto the lounge chair. Let him talk to the dial tone. Let him spend the next seven years pondering how a woman he underestimated managed to dismantle his entire existence with a single forwarded photograph.
