Chapter 20 - The Grand Mastermind

Down in the grand auditorium of the Sterling Tower, over three hundred journalists sat in tiered seating, their cameras flashing as I walked up to the podium.

I adjusted the microphone and looked out at the massive crowd.

"Miss Sterling!" a reporter from the front row called out, holding up a recorder. "You’ve achieved what many call the most extraordinary legal and financial victory of the decade. You completely destroyed the Apex Syndicate in less than a week. Looking back, do you regret letting your family drag you into court in the first place?"

A slight, subtle smile touched the corners of my lips.

"I have a confession to make," I said, my voice projecting with crystal clarity through the speakers.

The auditorium fell completely silent. Every journalist leaned forward, catching their breath.

"Three years ago, when I uncovered the first anomaly in my Vanguard account," I revealed, looking straight into the main television camera, "I knew exactly who Eleanor was. I knew who Julian was. And I knew about Marcus Sterling."

Gasps echoed throughout the room.

"I could have arrested them three years ago," I continued smoothly. "I could have filed a quiet police report and settled it out of court. But if I had done that, Marcus Sterling would have slipped through the cracks. The Vance brothers would have hidden their offshore accounts. And my family would have spent the rest of their lives blaming me."

I leaned over the podium, my eyes flashing with absolute authority.

"So I waited. I stayed silent for thirty-six months. I allowed Eleanor and Julian to believe they were winning. I allowed them to spend the money, file the lawsuit, and invite the world’s media into Courtroom 14B. Because I didn't just want to defend myself... I wanted them to build their own gallows."

The journalists sat frozen in absolute awe. The realization washed over the entire world watching the live broadcast: every single step, every humiliation, and every court filing had been part of a grand master strategy designed by a twenty-five-year-old genius from day one.

"They brought laughter into that courtroom," I concluded, looking into the camera one last time with unmatched power. "But I brought the verdict. The court is now permanently adjourned."

I stepped away from the podium, leaving the room in stunned, thunderous applause, as I walked into the future I had earned.
