CHAPTER 3 — The Woman They Feared Was Actually Their Last Hope

The entire prison went into lockdown.

Steel doors slammed shut.

Armed guards rushed through the corridors.

In Cell Block D, every inmate stood silently behind the bars, watching Elena Cross walk toward Victor Kane's cell.

The same man who had ruled the block for years now stood with both hands visible.

No threats.

No insults.

No smile.

Only fear.

Elena stopped outside his cell.

"Talk."

Victor looked over his shoulder, making sure no one else was close.

Then he whispered,

"His name isn't Robert Vale."

Elena's eyes changed.

Just slightly.

Robert Vale was an old inmate.

Quiet.

Thin.

Always sitting near the chapel.

Everyone believed he was serving time for fraud.

Nobody feared him.

Nobody respected him.

That was exactly why Elena had noticed him.

Victor continued,

"He's not weak. He's protected."

"By who?"

Victor swallowed.

"Half the prison staff."

Elena said nothing.

Victor leaned closer.

"People disappear because of me. That's what everyone thinks."

His voice dropped lower.

"But I didn't make them disappear."

Elena stared at him.

"Vale did."

For the first time, Victor Kane looked ashamed.

"I let everyone believe it was me because fear kept me alive."

Before Elena could respond, the lights went out.

Complete darkness swallowed Cell Block D.

Then came the sound.

One gunshot.

Then another.

Screams erupted.

The emergency lights flickered red.

A group of armed men entered through the service corridor.

They were not guards.

They wore black uniforms with no badges.

At the center of them stood Robert Vale.

The harmless old prisoner.

But he was not hunched anymore.

He stood straight.

Cold.

Smiling.

"Elena Cross," he called out. "I wondered how long it would take them to send you."

Every inmate backed away.

Victor whispered,

"That's him."

Vale smiled at the prisoners.

"You animals have no idea who has been living beside you."

Then he looked at Elena.

"You should have stayed buried."

Elena slowly reached inside her sleeve.

She pulled out the hidden silver ring.

The symbol flashed under the red emergency light.

Vale's smile disappeared.

For the first time...

He looked afraid.

Elena raised her voice.

"By order of the International Tribunal, Robert Vale, real name Viktor Malek, you are under arrest for crimes against humanity, murder, trafficking, and conspiracy."

The armed men laughed.

One of them pointed his weapon at her.

"You're in prison, sweetheart. Nobody is arresting anyone."

Elena did not move.

"No."

She looked toward the ceiling camera.

"I'm exactly where I needed to be."

The prison gates outside exploded open.

Black SUVs stormed the yard.

Federal agents in tactical gear flooded the facility.

The armed men turned in panic.

Vale screamed,

"Kill her!"

But before anyone could fire, Victor Kane charged from his cell.

For once, the most feared inmate in Blackstone used his strength for something other than terror.

He slammed one attacker into the wall.

Another inmate grabbed a weapon from the floor and kicked it away.

Then another.

Then another.

Within seconds, the prisoners of Cell Block D did something nobody expected.

They protected Elena.

Not because they were good men.

But because even monsters knew when something worse had entered the room.

Elena moved through the chaos with terrifying calm.

She disarmed one attacker.

Then another.

Finally, she reached Vale.

He tried to run.

She caught him at the chapel doors.

The same place where he had pretended to pray for years.

He pulled a hidden blade.

Elena knocked it from his hand and forced him to the ground.

Vale gasped,

"You don't know who I work for."

Elena leaned close.

"No."

Then she tightened the cuffs around his wrists.

"But they know who I work for."

Minutes later, the entire prison fell silent.

Robert Vale was dragged out in chains.

Several corrupt guards were arrested.

The secret network hidden inside Blackstone collapsed before sunrise.

Victor Kane stood near the cafeteria, bruised and bleeding.

Elena walked past him.

He lowered his head.

"Why didn't you finish me last night?"

Elena stopped.

"Because you're not the man I came for."

Victor looked at her.

"And what am I?"

Elena turned back.

"A man who still has one choice left."

Those words stayed with him longer than any punch ever had.

Three months later, Blackstone Prison changed.

Cell Block D was no longer called The Graveyard.

The corrupt guards were gone.

The missing inmates' families finally received answers.

Victor Kane, once feared as the most dangerous man alive, became the inmate who stopped fights instead of starting them.

And Elena Cross?

Her name disappeared from every prison record.

No mugshot.

No file.

No sentence.

Only one rumor remained.

Whenever a powerful criminal vanished without warning...

Whenever a secret empire collapsed overnight...

People whispered the same thing.

A woman with calm gray eyes had walked through the front door.

May you like

And by morning...

Every monster inside was begging for mercy.

THE END
