Chapter 14 - The Digital TrapAt 3:15 AM, the red alert console on Mara Bennett’s private terminal flashed silently.

She tapped her secure intercom, waking Darren immediately.
“Boss, we have an unauthorized priority override on the New Jersey terminal lease registry,” Mara’s voice crackled through the secure speaker, sharp and focused. “Someone is trying to file a backdoor acquisition claim through an offshore shell company named Vanguard Holdings.”
A heavy pause hung over the line.
“Julian Vance,” Darren said, his voice entirely devoid of surprise, carrying a chilling, lethal calmness. “He thinks he can play chess with a man who owns the board.”
“What do you want to do?” Mara asked. “We can block the filing instantly through the state registry.”
“No,” Darren replied, sitting up in the dark room, his eyes fixed on the city lights outside his window. “Don't block it. Let him file it. Let him sink twenty million dollars into a lease that contains a hidden forfeiture clause.”
“A forfeiture clause?” Mara asked, a wicked smile creeping into her voice. “The one buried in section fourteen of the original Mercer acquisition papers?”
“The very same,” Darren said. “Julian thinks he’s buying a weapon to choke our supply chain. In reality, the moment he signs the final transfer papers, our legal framework triggers an automatic asset seizure of every single holding Vanguard owns in the tri-state area.”

“A complete corporate counter-encirclement,” Mara murmured with professional admiration. “Shall I draft the execution order?”
“Draft it,” Darren commanded. “And make sure Julian receives the notification personally at his desk tomorrow morning—right before the stock market opens.”
