Chapter 18 - The Final FoundationThree years later.

The financial district of Manhattan was as relentless as ever, but the name Keane Meridian Capital was no longer just a powerful financial institution—it was a legend.
In his grand office, Darren Keane stood by the window, reviewing a final corporate restructuring report.
Mara Bennett walked in, placing a small envelope on his desk alongside his morning coffee.
“What’s this?” Darren asked, glancing down.
“An invitation,” Mara smiled, a rare expression of genuine warmth crossing her features. “From the regional hospitality group in Boston. The Beacon Hotel is celebrating its annual excellence awards, and their newly appointed General Manager is receiving the regional leadership plaque.”
Darren picked up the heavy cardstock envelope.
The name printed inside was crisp and clear: Sloan Mercer-Keane—or rather, as she had legally chosen to re-register herself after years of hard work, simply Sloan Mercer.
“Are you going?” Mara asked.
Darren looked out at the vast, glittering skyline of Manhattan—the towers, the shipping lanes, the monuments of wealth and power that he had built and conquered.
He picked up the gold pocket watch resting on his desk, letting the steady, reassuring tick echo in the quiet room.

Others build them so they never have to kneel again.
And a very few realize that the most powerful thing in the world isn't fifteen billion dollars, or corporate dominance, or unyielding control.

“Book a flight to Boston, Mara,” Darren said, a quiet, peaceful smile touching his lips. “I think it’s time to check in.”
