Chapter 10 - REBIRTHOne year after the ambulances lit up our driveway, the Connecticut coastline was bathed in the golden warmth of a late summer sunset.

I stood on the wrap-around porch of my new home—a sleek, modern glass-and-steel architectural masterpiece perched on a cliff overlooking Long Island Sound. There were no hidden secrets here, no locked doors, no whispered lies in the dark.

My new firm, Vance Forensic & Legal Advisory, was thriving, helping women reclaim their financial independence and corporate power from spouses who thought they could operate in the shadows.

My phone buzzed on the wooden table beside my iced tea.

I picked it up and glanced at the screen. It was a text from Ethan, who was now running his own nationwide construction corporation out of Boston:

“Heading down to Connecticut next weekend. Can I take the most brilliant business partner in the world out for dinner?”

I smiled, looking out at the endless expanse of the ocean where the horizon stretched clean and bright toward tomorrow.

I typed my reply:

“Only if you promise to bring the truth—and nothing else.”
