Chapter 4 - THE HOSPITAL CONFRONTATIONThe sterile smell of antiseptic and bleach hung heavy in the ICU waiting room of St. Jude’s Memorial. The harsh fluorescent lights flickered slightly overhead as I walked down the corridor, my heels clicking sharply against the linoleum floor.

Julian was resting in room 412, stabilized after his cardiac scare, though the doctors warned he was under extreme stress and needed total rest.
Right outside his door, Ethan and Beatrice were locked in a fierce, hushed argument.
"You always favored him!" Ethan’s voice echoed down the hallway, thick with bitter tears. "You knew he was bleeding the estate dry, didn't you, Mom? You knew he took my inheritance to fund his lifestyle!"
"That's not true, Ethan! Julian was smart, he was managing the family assets..." Beatrice sobbed, wringing her diamond-encrusted hands.
"He was stealing from me!" Ethan roared, slamming his palm against the hospital wall. "And while I was busting my ass on construction sites, my own brother was sleeping with my wife in the house I bought!"
I stepped into the light of the hallway, clearing my throat softly. Both of them whipped around to look at me.
"He wasn't just stealing from you, Ethan," I said calmly, pulling a thick manila folder from my tote bag and tossing it onto the waiting room chairs between them.
Ethan stared at the folder, hesitant to touch it. Beatrice looked at me with pure terror in her eyes.
"What is that?" Ethan asked, his voice shaking.
"That is a complete forensic audit of every bank account, shell corporation, and hidden asset Julian controls," I replied smoothly. "Over four million dollars stolen from the family trust, laundered through fake real estate ventures, and funneled directly into accounts shared by Julian and Sienna."
Beatrice gasped, clutching her chest. "You... you hacked his files? That's illegal!"
"No, Beatrice, corporate espionage is illegal. Exercising my legal right as a co-signatory on joint marital assets to investigate fraud is entirely legal," I retorted, stepping closer. "Julian didn't just ruin our marriages. He committed grand larceny and interstate wire fraud. The federal prosecutor’s office received a copy twenty minutes ago."
Ethan slowly reached down, picked up the manila folder, and opened it. He flipped through the pages—bank statements, wire receipts, signatures forged on trust transfer documents. The pages trembled in his calloused hands.

"He... he left me nothing," Ethan whispered, a tear finally breaking free and cutting a clean path through the dirt on his cheek. "He treated me like a servant."
"Not anymore," I said, putting a gentle hand on his shoulder. "Julian wanted a war. Tonight, he’s going to get the verdict."
