Chapter 7 - THE PRESS CONFERENCEThree days later, the steps of the Connecticut Superior Courthouse were swarming with reporters, camera crews, and flashing strobe lights. The story had exploded across regional news outlets overnight: High-Society Embezzlement Scandal Rocks Elite Real Estate Firm; Founder Arrested in Hospital Bed.

I stepped out of the black sedan wearing a tailored charcoal pantsuit and dark oversized sunglasses, my head held high. Ethan walked beside me, his lawyer carrying a briefcase bulging with legal filings.

Microphones were thrust into our faces like hungry wolves.

"Mrs. Vance! Is it true your husband embezzled millions?" shouted a reporter from the Hartford Courant.

"Eleanor, did you know about the affair with your sister-in-law?" yelled another.

I stopped at the top of the courthouse steps, turned toward the bank of cameras, and removed my sunglasses. The sudden quiet of the crowd was palpable.

"My husband, Julian Vance, built his entire life on a foundation of lies, corporate fraud, and betrayal," I spoke clearly into the forest of microphones. "For years, he and Sienna Vance exploited the trust of their families to fund a lifestyle of deceit. But tonight, that chapter is closed."

I gestured to Ethan standing beside me.

"Effective immediately, we have filed for complete dissolution of our marriages, initiated full asset recovery through federal prosecutors, and placed the entire corporate holding under court-ordered receivership. Justice isn't just coming—it has already arrived."

As flashes blinded us from every angle, I turned and walked through the heavy oak doors of the courthouse, leaving the ashes of my old life behind.

Inside the building, waiting in a holding cell before his arraignment, Julian was watching the live broadcast on a small television mounted in the corner.

He threw his aluminum cup at the screen, shattering the glass as the reality of his total destruction finally set in.
