Chapter 18 - The Collapse of the Syndicate

By 3:00 AM, the industrial railway yard was crawling with federal investigators, forensic teams, and transport vans.
Don Lorenzo’s regional syndicate had suffered a fatal blow. The raid on the warehouse, combined with the encrypted master ledger recovered from Mariana’s files, resulted in simultaneous pre-dawn raids across three states. Over forty high-ranking syndicate members, corrupt municipal officials, and money launderers were rounded up before sunrise.
David was hauled away from the warehouse in handcuffs, his face stained with dirt and tears, staring down at his shoes as he was loaded into the back of a black-and-white prisoner transport van. He would never see a dime of the commercial rental income again. He would never manipulate another bank account, nor hide another medical diagnosis behind a wall of lies.
Alejandro Garza walked over to Mariana, handing her a warm cup of coffee from a mobile command unit.
"You handled yourself like a seasoned operative out there, Mariana," Garza said, offering a respectful nod. "Though I sincerely hope this is the last time my legal services require tactical combat support."
Mariana took the coffee, letting the warmth seep into her cold fingers. She looked out over the quiet railway yard as the first pale streaks of dawn began to paint the Querétaro sky in shades of rose and gold.
"No more tactical operations, Alejandro," Mariana smiled faintly. "Just life. Quiet, normal, peaceful life."

"How is Chloe?"
"She's sleeping soundly at home, under the care of our trusted nurse," Mariana replied, her eyes softening. "And tomorrow, she starts her first week back at her new school—fully healthy, completely secure, and knowing for a fact that nothing in this world can ever break us."
