Chapter 6 - THE FINAL ULTIMATUMArthur stepped fully into the boardroom, the heavy silence of absolute submission following his every footstep. The panic-stricken board members practically shrank back into their high-backed leather chairs, unwilling to even make eye contact with the man who had dismantled their entire livelihood before lunch.

Jonathan Sterling slowly stood up, his posture slumped, the fire of his arrogance completely extinguished. He looked ten years older than he had that morning.
"Arthur," Jonathan began, his voice rough and pleading. "Let’s be reasonable. Family disputes shouldn't ruin generations of enterprise. Name your terms. Do you want a controlling stake in the company? Do you want half of our overseas assets? Just... call off your dogs."
Arthur stopped a few feet away from the head of the table. He looked at Jonathan with a cold, analytical gaze, the way a scientist might look at a specimen under a microscope.
"You still don't get it, do you, Jonathan?" Arthur said softly. "You think everything in this world has a price tag. You think you can buy forgiveness, buy compliance, buy a clean slate."
He turned his gaze slowly toward Victoria, who was now weeping openly, her mascara running down her pale cheeks in jagged black streaks.
"You thought Maya and Leo were strays because they didn't wear designer clothes or carry trust funds," Arthur continued, his voice hardening like steel. "You thought they were nobodies you could slap around in the privacy of my home. But those children lost everything in a car crash last month caused by a reckless driver who walked free because his father paid off the local precinct. I took them in because I made a promise to their mother on her deathbed."
Victoria’s breath hitched. The horror in her eyes deepened.
"You didn't just disrespect me, Victoria," Arthur said, stepping closer to her until she could feel the chilling draft of his presence. "You attacked two children who had already lost the entire world. And for that, there is no negotiation."
"Arthur, please!" Victoria sobbed, finally dropping to her knees on the polished mahogany floor, grabbing the hem of his sweater. "I'm your wife! I love you! I'll change! I swear to God I'll change!"
Arthur looked down at her, gently pulling his sweater free from her desperate grip.
"The divorce papers are already filed," Arthur said smoothly. "You will walk out of that penthouse tonight with exactly what you brought into our marriage five years ago: nothing. Your father's company will be liquidated by Friday morning, and every penny of your family's illicit offshore accounts will be seized by federal regulators for tax evasion and corporate bribery."
Jonathan stumbled forward, clutching his chest. "You... you wouldn't."

"Try me," Arthur repeated the exact phrase Jonathan had thrown at him earlier that morning.
Without another word, Arthur turned his back on the Sterling family, walking out of the boardroom and leaving them amid the smoking ruins of their own empire.
