Chapter 7 - The Inheritance of Truth

Three weeks later, the courtroom of the Federal District Court was packed to capacity.

The trial of The United States v. Spencer Riley had captured national headlines. Dubbed by the media as "The Parasite Prodigy," the case exposed how Spencer had systematically manipulated his mother, defrauded investors, and run an underground criminal empire while playing the role of a dying, helpless son.

Sitting in the front row of the gallery, wearing a crisp, elegant navy blue blazer and holding her head high, was Abigail Riley. Gone was the exhausted, downtrodden woman who used to pawn her clothes for medical bills. In her place sat a matriarch of quiet strength and unbreakable dignity.

Beside her sat Naomi, now fully exonerated of all false embezzlement charges thanks to the digital evidence recovered from Spencer’s mainframe.

When the judge finally read the verdict—Guilty on all counts: racketeering, wire fraud, extortion, and attempted assault—Spencer didn't shout or rage. He simply sat at the defense table, staring blankly ahead as the federal bailiffs snapped the steel cuffs back onto his wrists, sentencing him to twenty-five years without the possibility of parole.

As he was led past the gallery, Spencer locked eyes with his mother one last time. There was no remorse in his gaze, only a cold, venomous hatred.

Abigail didn't look away. She met his stare with unwavering calm, whispering silently to herself: “You wanted everything, Spencer. And now you have nothing.”
