Chapter 5 - The ConfessionTen minutes later, Vince Moretti was dragged down into the underground stone cellars beneath the mansion—the very place where the Duca family stored its darkest secrets and settled scores that never reached a courtroom.

He was tied securely to a heavy steel chair. His right hand was wrapped in a crude bandage, soaked red with blood.

Lorenzo walked into the dimly lit cellar, pulling off his wet suit jacket and tossing it onto a wooden table. He picked up a heavy iron wrench, weighing it slowly in his hand.

“Who in Chicago is backing you, Vince?” Lorenzo asked, stepping close enough for Vince to smell the rain and gunpowder on him.

Vince spat a glob of blood onto the concrete floor, laughing hysterically. “You think killing me stops it, Lorenzo? The Chicago bosses already know the bomb failed. They have teams moving on your shipping ports right now! Your empire is burning to the ground while you play babysitter!”

Lorenzo didn’t blink. He raised the wrench and brought it down with calculated precision against Vince’s left knee.

A blood-curdling scream echoed off the stone walls.

“Let’s talk about your shipping ports, Vince,” Lorenzo whispered softly, leaning down. “Because by the time I’m done with you, you’ll be begging me to let you speak to God.”
