Chapter 7 - The AllianceThree days later.

The fallout across the New York underworld was absolute and swift. With Vince Moretti eliminated and his co-conspirators in Chicago exposed, Lorenzo Duca didn't just defend his territory—he expanded it. The families that had dared to back the assassination attempt sent desperate messages of submission, offering up their own assets to appease the wrath of the Duca patriarch.
Inside his private office at the Duca headquarters in Manhattan, Lorenzo sat behind a massive glass desk, reviewing financial ledgers.
Marco knocked and stepped inside, holding a thick manila folder.
“The Chicago council has backed down, boss,” Marco reported. “They signed the port concessions. We control the entire eastern seaboard now.”
“Good,” Lorenzo said without looking up. “And the security audit for the estate?”
“Completed. Every staff member has been thoroughly re-vetted. But...” Marco hesitated, a faint smile touching his lips. “There’s something else. Grace submitted her official personnel paperwork for the archive.”
Lorenzo looked up, raising an eyebrow. “And?”
“Her previous background... she has a degree in corporate forensic accounting from NYU. She took the housekeeping job three years ago after her husband passed away and left her with massive debts that forced her out of the financial sector.”

Lorenzo stared at Marco for a long moment, then a slow, calculating smile spread across his face.
“A forensic accountant working as my housekeeper,” Lorenzo murmured. “No wonder she notices things hidden in plain sight.”
