Chapter 9 - The Unbreakable BondOne year later.

The Duca estate hosted another birthday party for Isabella. But this time, there were no hidden gift boxes, no trembling guests, and no lurking traitors.
The hall was filled with laughter, music, and the bright, uninhibited joy of children running across the polished marble floors.
Grace stood near the terrace doors, watching the celebration with a cup of sparkling cider in her hand. She wore an elegant emerald-green dress, her posture confident and serene. The debt that had once crushed her was gone, her career was restored, and her daughter was growing up in a world where she would never have to hide in the shadows.
A tall shadow fell beside her.
Lorenzo stood there, holding two glasses of champagne. He handed one to Grace.
“You’ve quieted down tonight, Grace,” Lorenzo noted, looking out at the children.
“I was just thinking about where we were a year ago today,” she answered softly, clinking her glass gently against his. “If Emma hadn’t wandered down that hallway... if she hadn't spoken up...”
“Then I would have lost everything that mattered,” Lorenzo finished for her, his voice steady and deeply sincere. He turned his dark eyes toward her. “You know, I built this entire empire on fear, walls, and blood. I thought protection meant locking everyone out.”
Grace smiled, looking up at him. “And what do you think it means now?”

Lorenzo watched Emma laugh as Isabella chased her around a pillar of white roses.
“It means keeping the right people close enough to catch the knives before they’re thrown,” Lorenzo said quietly.
