CHAPTER 5: THE WOMAN BEHIND MELISSA WAS EVEN MORE DANGEROUS

The federal agents entered the house without wasting a second.

Their expressions told everyone the situation had become far more serious than a family dispute.

The lead investigator placed several photographs on the table.

"Mrs. Carter..."

"Have you ever seen this woman?"

Evelyn looked down.

The color drained from her face.

"No..."

"It can't be..."

Daniel leaned closer.

The woman in the photograph was elegant, poised, and dressed in black.

She looked to be in her late sixties.

Her name was printed beneath the picture.

DIANE WHITMORE.

Victoria Hayes slowly closed her eyes.

"I was afraid of this."

Daniel frowned.

"Who is she?"

Victoria took a deep breath.

"She's Richard Carter's former business partner."

"The only person who knew the truth about the hidden empire."

The room became silent.

The investigator continued.

"Twenty-seven years ago, Diane attempted to gain control of Carter Global through fraudulent shell companies."

"When Richard discovered the scheme, he exposed her."

"She disappeared the very next day."

"For decades..."

"Nobody knew where she went."

Daniel looked at Melissa's financial records.

Every offshore transfer.

Every secret payment.

Every fake legal document.

They all led to one company.

Whitmore International Holdings.

Melissa had never been the mastermind.

She had been recruited.

Manipulated.

Paid.

Victoria pointed to another file.

"Melissa received monthly payments for six years."

"In exchange..."

"She kept Evelyn isolated."

"She prevented the grandchildren from meeting her."

"And she waited for Richard's trust to collapse."

Daniel slammed his fist against the table.

"So this was never about jealousy."

"It was about taking the company."

The investigator nodded.

"Exactly."

Then another agent rushed into the room.

"Sir!"

"We found Melissa's abandoned SUV at a private airport."

Everyone stood up.

"Was she there?"

The agent shook his head.

"No."

"But surveillance cameras captured her boarding a private jet."

"She wasn't alone."

He placed another photograph on the table.

Melissa was embracing Diane Whitmore before climbing the aircraft stairs.

Daniel whispered,

"My God..."

"They've been working together all along."

Before anyone could react, Victoria's phone vibrated again.

She answered.

Her expression turned pale.

"The emergency board meeting..."

"It's happening right now."

Daniel looked confused.

"What meeting?"

Victoria swallowed hard.

"Diane owns enough stolen proxy shares to force a vote."

"If she wins..."

"She'll legally seize control of Carter Global before sunrise."

The room exploded into chaos.

Federal agents grabbed their radios.

Lawyers opened laptops.

Security teams rushed outside.

Victoria looked directly at Evelyn.

"There's only one person who can stop this."

"You."

Evelyn stared at the documents.

"I've spent six years living as an invisible old woman."

"I don't know how to run a billion-dollar company."

Victoria smiled.

"You don't have to."

"You only have to remind the board who Richard Carter trusted."

One hour later...

A black helicopter landed on the roof of Carter Global Headquarters.

More than two hundred executives were already inside the boardroom.

Television cameras waited outside.

Shareholders from around the world joined the emergency meeting live.

At the head of the table sat Diane Whitmore.

She smiled confidently as the chairman announced,

"The controlling shareholder has failed to appear."

"I therefore nominate Diane Whitmore as the new Chairwoman of Carter Global."

Several directors began raising their hands.

Then...

The massive boardroom doors slowly opened.

Everyone turned around.

An elderly woman wearing the same faded gray sweater walked inside.

No jewelry.

No designer handbag.

No bodyguards.

Just quiet confidence.

Every director immediately stood.

Victoria announced in a clear voice,

"Please welcome..."

"The legal owner of Carter Global."

"Mrs. Evelyn Carter."

Diane's smile disappeared instantly.

Because for the first time in twenty-seven years...

The woman she thought she had erased...

May you like

Had finally come back to take her seat.

End of Chapter 5...
