CHAPTER 2 â The Letter His Dead Mother Left Behind

Ethanâs hand shook as he took the envelope.
The bride, Vanessa, grabbed his wrist.
âDonât you dare embarrass me in front of everyone.â
Ethan looked at her like she had become a stranger.
Then he opened the letter.
Inside was one page.
Only a few lines.
But every word cut deeper than a knife.
âEthan, I never left you. Your mother paid me to disappear. She told me you chose your familyâs money over me. Our sonâs name is Noah. He waited for you his whole life.â
The room erupted.
Reporters rushed forward.
Guests whispered.
Vanessaâs face turned pale.
âNoah?â Ethan whispered.
The boy nodded slowly.
âMy mom said you used to sing to me when I cried.â
Ethan covered his mouth.
A memory flashed back.
A hospital room.
A newborn baby.
A woman crying happily in his arms.
Then nothing.
Because eight years ago, Ethan had believed they were both dead.
He turned toward his mother.
âWhat did you do?â
The elegant woman stepped back.
âI protected our family.â
âYou destroyed mine.â
Noah suddenly pulled something else from his pocket.
A tiny silver ring.
âMy mom said this was yours.â
Ethan collapsed to his knees.
But before he could hug his son, Vanessa screamed.
âThis wedding is not over!â
Then she revealed the real reason she was desperate to marry him.
She was already pregnant.
And the babyâŠ

was not Ethanâs.
