CHAPTER 3 – The DNA Test That Changed Everything

Vanessa's confession hit the ballroom like an explosion.
"You heard me!" she shouted, her mascara already running. "I'm pregnant... but Ethan isn't the father!"
The guests gasped.
Cameras flashed nonstop.
Within minutes, clips of the billionaire's ruined wedding flooded social media.
But Ethan didn't even look at Vanessa.
His eyes never left the little boy standing in front of him.
Noah.
The son he had never known.
The child who had walked three hours carrying nothing but an old photograph and a dying mother's final wish.
Ethan slowly reached out.
"Can... can I hug you?"
Noah hesitated.
His fingers tightened around the faded picture.
"My mom said you loved me before I was born."
A tear rolled down Ethan's face.
"I did."
"...and I never stopped."
For the first time in eight years, father and son embraced.
The ballroom fell silent.
Even the reporters lowered their cameras.
Several guests wiped tears from their eyes.
But Ethan's mother, Victoria Blackwood, wasn't crying.
She was calculating.
She suddenly stepped forward.
"Enough of this emotional nonsense."
Everyone turned.
She looked directly at Noah.
"That child could belong to anyone."
The words pierced the room.
Noah slowly let go of Ethan.
His hopeful eyes filled with disappointment.
"You... don't believe me?"
Victoria crossed her arms.
"Anyone can write a letter."
"Anyone can steal a photograph."
"If you want this family to believe you..."
"...prove you're really Ethan's son."
Vanessa instantly smiled.
"Exactly!"
"A DNA test."
The crowd nodded.
It seemed fair.
Ethan looked horrified.
"He doesn't have to prove anything."
But Noah quietly whispered,
"It's okay."
Then he looked up at Ethan.
"If you're really my dad..."
"...you won't be afraid."
Those words shattered Ethan.
He knelt beside Noah.
"I'm not afraid."
"I'm terrified..."
"...that I've already lost eight years with you."
Three hours later...
Inside the city's most advanced genetics laboratory...
Everyone waited.
Victoria.
Vanessa.
The reporters.
Lawyers.
Board members from Blackwood Enterprises.
The laboratory director walked into the room holding a sealed envelope.
"No mistakes," he announced.
"We repeated the test three times."
The room became deathly quiet.
He opened the file.
His eyes widened.
"What...?"
Victoria smiled confidently.
"I told you."
But the scientist looked directly at Ethan.
His voice trembled.
"Mr. Blackwood..."
"...the probability is 99.9999%."
"You are Noah's biological father."
The room erupted.
Victoria stumbled backward.
Vanessa dropped into a chair.
Reporters rushed toward the exit to break the biggest story of the year.
But before anyone could celebrate...
The laboratory director raised his hand.
"There's something else."
Everyone froze again.
"We also tested the DNA found on the old hospital bracelet that was preserved with Noah's birth records."
Ethan frowned.
"What about it?"
The scientist swallowed.
"The bracelet contains DNA from another adult..."
He looked directly at Victoria.
"...and it proves someone else held Noah immediately after he was born."
Victoria's face turned ghost white.
"That's impossible..."
The scientist slowly removed another document.
"No, Mrs. Blackwood."
"It proves you were inside the maternity ward."
Ethan stared at his mother in disbelief.
"You told me you had never met Lily after she gave birth."
Victoria couldn't answer.
Her silence was louder than any confession.
Then Noah quietly reached into his backpack one last time.
"I almost forgot..."
"My mom told me to give you this..."
He handed Ethan a small brass key attached to an old leather tag.
Written on the tag were six words that made Victoria collapse to the floor.
