CHAPTER 4 – The Locker That Exposed a Twenty-Year Lie

Victoria Blackwood collapsed to her knees.
Her perfectly polished image shattered in an instant.
The tiny brass key lay in Ethan's trembling hand like it weighed a thousand pounds.
Locker 217.
Noah looked confused.
"My mom said... if anything happened to her... this key would finally tell you everything."
Ethan didn't hesitate.
"We're leaving. Right now."
Ignoring the reporters screaming his name, Ethan grabbed Noah's hand and rushed out of the ballroom.
Even Vanessa didn't try to stop him.
She knew the wedding was over.
But Victoria...
She suddenly screamed.
"ETHAN! DON'T OPEN THAT LOCKER!"
Her desperate voice echoed through the empty hall.
For the first time in his life...
Ethan ignored his mother.
One Hour Later
The old Greybridge Train Station had been abandoned for years.
Broken windows.
Rusted gates.
Graffiti covered the walls.
Deep inside the forgotten storage area stood hundreds of metal lockers.
Most were covered in dust.
Except one.
Locker 217.
Its surface looked as if someone had cleaned it recently.
Ethan inserted the tiny brass key.
His heart pounded.
Click.
The rusty door slowly creaked open.
Inside...
There wasn't money.
There weren't jewels.
There wasn't a secret fortune.
Only a small cardboard box.
And dozens of sealed envelopes.
Noah whispered,
"Mom always cried after visiting this place."
Ethan carefully lifted the box.
On top rested a videotape labeled in faded handwriting.
"For Ethan... if the truth is ever allowed to survive."
His hands began shaking.
Nearby, an elderly station caretaker noticed the tape.
His face immediately changed.
"You..."
He stared at Ethan.
"I've waited almost nine years for you."
Ethan froze.
"You know who left this?"
The old man nodded.
"A young woman."
"Beautiful."
"Always smiling..."
"...even when she was dying."
"Lily."
Tears filled Ethan's eyes.
"She came here every year."
"On Noah's birthday."
"She said one day..."
"...you would finally come."
The old man reached into his pocket.
"I was told to give you this if you ever arrived."
It was another envelope.
Smaller.
Older.
Still sealed.
Across the front, Lily had written only one sentence.
"Don't watch the tape until you're ready to hate someone you love."
Noah looked at Ethan.
"What does that mean?"
Ethan couldn't answer.
Instead, he opened the cardboard box.
Inside were hospital records.
Bank statements.
Court documents.
Flight tickets.
Photographs.
Hundreds of them.
Each one proved the same horrifying truth.
Victoria had secretly paid investigators to follow Lily for eight years.
Every address.
Every school Noah attended.
Every hospital visit.
Every birthday.
She had known exactly where they were...
The entire time.
Ethan's knees gave out.
"My God..."
"You knew where my son was..."
"You watched him grow up..."
"...and you never told me."
Noah silently picked up another photograph.
It showed himself at six years old, blowing out birthday candles.
Standing behind a tree...
Almost hidden from view...
Was Victoria.
Watching.
Not smiling.
Just watching.
Noah's voice trembled.
"I thought that lady was just a stranger..."
The room became ice cold.
Then...
A black SUV suddenly screeched to a stop outside the station.
Four men in black suits rushed toward Locker 217.
The old caretaker's face turned white.
"No..."
"They found you."
One of the men shouted,
"Take the box!"
Another reached inside his jacket.
Ethan instinctively pulled Noah behind him.
"What do you want?"
The tallest man smiled coldly.
"We're here on behalf of someone who cannot afford for that evidence to leave this station."
Ethan's eyes narrowed.
"My mother sent you?"
The man laughed.
"No."
Then he spoke seven words that stopped Ethan's heart.
"Your mother has never been the mastermind."
Behind the men...
A sleek black limousine rolled slowly into the station.
The rear door opened.
A polished leather shoe stepped onto the pavement.
Then a familiar female voice echoed through the abandoned station.
"Hello, Ethan..."
"You've finally found my locker."
Ethan's face turned completely pale.
"...Impossible."
May you like
"You're supposed to be dead."
To Be Continued...
