Chapter 10 - A New Dawn Beyond the Fortress WallsSix months later, the wreckage of Sterling Manor had been completely bulldozed, the charred bricks hauled away to clear space for something entirely different.

The forty secluded acres in Newport weren't sold to a luxury hotel developer or a private hedge fund. Under Leo’s first official executive decree as majority owner of the newly restructured Sterling Foundation, the entire property was converted into the Arthur Sterling Memorial Center—a world-class rehabilitation and research hospital dedicated to children with mobility impairments and neurological trauma.
There were no high brick walls. There were no iron fences.
The gates were wide open, welcoming families from all walks of life.
On a crisp autumn morning, Clara stood on the sunlit lawn where the old chateau used to stand. The scent of salt air and pine needles filled the breeze.
Beside her, walking completely unassisted without braces or crutches, fourteen-year-old Leo kicked a soccer ball across the grass toward a group of laughing children playing near the new fountain.
He paused, wiped a bead of sweat from his forehead, and looked back at Clara with a grin.
"Hey, Clara! You're up!" he shouted, booting the ball in her direction.
Clara laughed, stepping forward to trap the ball with her shoe before launching it back across the green.

The fortress was gone. The ghosts of the past had been burned away by the very fire meant to destroy them. And as Clara watched Leo run across the sun-drenched lawn, laughing out loud without anyone looking right through him, she knew the nightmare was finally over.
They weren't invisible anymore.
